Just kind of venting, but has anyone played in a golf outing scramble recently where you just played the scramble score straight up? I know quite a few of these are for charities and they are trying to get as many donations as possible so they are usually selling these "cheat" packages. I played in one this week and this was the package.

    5 mulligans
2 gimmies (as long as you were on the green the putt was good no matter distance)
2 tosses (you can pick the ball up anywhere and throw it)
Rope gimmies (there is a rope tied to every flagstick and all putts within that are good)

I know there is a ton of "latitude" taken in scrambles anyway and quite a few non-golfers also play, but this was one of the craziest packages i've ever seen.

Unless I'm just there to basically donate to an organization, I avoid 4-man scrambles like the plague. I only play in one or two per year now. I've seen the "toss" option turn in to laying flat on your stomach and stretching out to the hole, then dropping the ball in to the hole. It's just gotten ridiculous. I will enter 3 man, straight up scrambles due to the fact that you're playing with another team. But that's pretty much it.

I've never seen these packages in scrambles. I e played a few, but hate doing it because I do not know how I did. My OCD makes me feel very incomplete after a scramble haha.

Yup. my idea of fun... a 7+ hours of torture......you are right, only time I would play was when I got the day off and company paid all expenses......luckily don't have to do that any more. I am the boss now!!!

But it does beat being at work. Make no mistake, i would never play in one on the weekend, i will barely ever even play straight up on the weekend, just takes too dang long.

You guys obviously aren't drinking enough at these things. Golf is not the main objective... It's barely a secondary objective.

Great comment. You're right about it being barely the second.

Love the groups that post a -25 round and then jump up and down & high-five like they've accomplished something special when they take 1st....

I play in a full field outing every year. No cheats at all. In fact, they have 2 foursomes tee off at the same time so no one can cheat. 8 players on one hole is a lot of fun. They make the extra money on the skins pot, closest to the pins and long drives. The skins pot rarely gets won as it takes an eagle on a par 3 or par 4. That money goes toward the charity.

This is the best run scramble I play in. If I ever run a scramble, I will run it just like this.

This sounds like a great way to run an event.
