  • Help with Driver Reading off BirTee Golf Tees

I just bought a set of 8 blue BirTee golf tees and I noticed that I could hardly get the ball to read on my SkyTrak after multiple shots. I have been using Tomahawk tees with great success, but I have to stack 3 in a row to hit off my Fiberbuilt hitting strip. With my tomahawk tees the red dot can be in the center of the base of the 3 stacked tees. When I put the red dot in the center of the base of the BirTee tee it would hardly read. Are you supposed to have the red dot hit the top of the BirTee tee? Any advice or information you can give me would be awesome. I just got tired of chasing the 3 separate Tomahawk tees and trying to find them in my simulator so I was hoping the BirTee tees would be a great solution, but I don't want to have to reposition my SkyTrak to hit drivers when I am playing a round in TGC 2019. I want to be able to keep my SkyTrak in the same position for all swings.

I have BirTees as well. I tried the red laser in the center of base of tee and at the bottom of the ball on top of the tee methods - neither worked (for me and apparently you).
As such, I have used the put the teed up ball 1 to 1.5 inches back from the laser dot method and it has worked 99% of the time so far.

PS: I can't believe how expensive these little pieces of plastic are!

Thank you Michael. I will try putting the tee 1 to 1.5 inches behind the dot which is farther away from the impact screen if I am understanding you right. So does your red dot touch the left edge of the bottom of the Birtee base?

Nope. The bottom of the Birtee base is 1-1.5 inches away.
This is how my Father-in-law hits as well (even though his swing speed is about 10 mph slower) with no misreads. No misreads if lighting is correct. (I say that because I had zero misreads when hitting before my projector was set up. When I set up the projector and turned off the lights I found I needed some light to get reads every time.)

Are you by chance hitting the ball with a higher LA from the birtee and the unit is not seeing the ball to create the two images? The window for skytrak to operate is not huge and if you are hitting the ball outside of this window, it will not read. So playing with ball position relative to the laser may work, closer to screen, farther from screen, closer to unit, farther from unit, etc. I have used the tomahawk and the blue birtee with a GC2 which has similar tech and it reads fine for me. Although the window of operation appears to be significantly larger on GC2 than skytrak.

Sorry i see you use blue tees, thought you might be using white.

I have the white birtee tees, and I too am having issue with no-reads on my driver. I was concerned that the birtee itself was causing some interference with the skytrak reading the shot as I was able to immediately pick up shots when I switched back to a tomahawk tee. I will try moving the tee back an inch or two and report back later today.

I picked up green tees and blue ones. I was worried white might make it more difficult to discriminate from the white ball? No problems getting shots to register with skytrak or gc2.

I use the yellow birtees and rarely have a problem. I do place the tee about 1 inch further away from the impact screen than the dot which helps. I do use the tee claw and if the white string is bunched up near the ball sometimes that will lead to a no read. Skytrak seems to have a tough time with any other white object in the hitting field including tees, clubs or strings which makes sense given it's looking for a white ball.

I have the red ones. I literally put the tees leading edge just after the dot from the skytrak and I swing away. no misreads.
