  • BenQ TH671ST projector lamp

Do projector lamps just burn out without warning? I turned my system on and about 5 minutes later the image just disappeared and the projector shut down, it has a lamp error light on so does that mean I just need a replacement? Seems like it would give a warning message or something.

when I turn it on now it starts up fans on but no illumination, then a couple seconds the lamp error light comes on, the fan keeps running for another 30 seconds or so then shuts down. Does this sound like just a bad lamp or bigger problem?

    Thanks for any assistance.

Just an update - contacted BenQ support and they believe it may be a defective component - so are issuing an RMA. so losing my projector for awhile but maybe lucky happened now as warranty expires in a little over a month.

Does sound like a bulb and mine just stopped working suddenly on a previous projector I had. I tried an aftermarket bulb replacement and it didn't work, went with an OEM bulb and worked just fine. Good that you got it in under warranty though in case it's not the bulb.

Lamps typically don't burn out without warning. The lamp indicator light will come on the projector once the lamp has approached the rated life even though it is still functioning. At that point it should be replaced and your lamp timer will need to be reset. If the lamp does fail without warning it could be a heat / lack of ventilation issue. Make sure your vents are kept clean so you have proper air flow.
