I've been at this for a little over a year and a half now and I've gotten a lot better but still have a long way to go. I've only been on a real course a handful of times and my best score was 116 around 6 months ago. Basketball was my sport and I always said I'd take up golf when my knees gave out. With 3 little ones and 2 arthritic knees, I don't play as much basketball these days and I've been spending a lot more time swinging a club. my brother talked me into getting a protee system and its been awesome learning the game. I was going through some of my videos the other day and thought I would share my progress and see if anyone had any advice.
these swings are from when I first picked up a club a year and a half ago. I could make contact more often than not and I was happy if I just got the ball in the air.
after swinging everyday for a few month, this is where I was. I was a lot better at making contact but still had the occasional whiff or chunk.
at this point I took a lesson and the instructor told me i had a good swing but I took the club too far behind me and needed my hands higher at the top. around this time I put the protee system into my garage. With my hands higher and an over the top early extension move, I became an expert slicer of the ball. My phone crashed around this time so I don't have videos but needless to say, it wasn't pretty.
i started watching all kinds of instructional videos on YouTube and read blogs and forums trying to figure out how to fix my swing and I decided I needed to swing from the inside and stop humping the goat. This is what happens when you diy your golf swing with the Internet as your guide.
Eventually i got rid of the humping and got good at swinging from the inside but it was too much of a good thing and I started hooking everything. It didn't help that my protee system had a heavy slice bias so I thought I was doing ok until I went and played outside. Now that I look at these videos again I can see I was coming way too far from the inside.
Here are a few current videos.
Fixed the hook and fixed my protee settings. I hit straighter now but miss both ways. The driver and 3w need a lot of work but I think I'm headed in the right direction. It looks like from my videos that I need to work on better lower body drive. Hopefully that will get my distances up. If anyone has any advice or input, it would be greatly appreciated.
