I bought a used ProTee system off a forum member here back in the spring, but it's taken me until now to get my simulator space cleared out in the garage (we just moved into this house last winter so there was a lot of organizing to do). I'm ready to buy the rest of the equipment I need, but still have some questions about how I'm going to make my space work. The space is an adjunct stall in our 3.5 car garage, it's 13.5' wide by 19' deep with 10' high ceilings. It would be a very good space but the complicating factor is that my 7 year old son is a lefty. To comfortably swing driver, I need to offset the hitting mat about 6" to the right. In that position, my son is very close to hitting the wall with his driver already, and at the rate he's growing it won't be long until he no longer has room. I don't know how much he'll really want to use it and I don't see any other option, so I'm just going to have to go ahead with it set up like that. Maybe I'll get him some right-handed clubs and see if he can still make the switch, or maybe he'll just learn to be a great iron and wedge player in the winter time
At any rate, the hitting wall in my setup has a door to the backyard and our main fuse box in it, so the screen setup needs to be somewhat movable. The two possibilities are a hinge to lift it to the ceiling or a hinge on the left side so that it could hinge like a door to the left wall. The issue I'm wondering about there is how could either of those work with the lamps, horizontal launch camera, and projector mounted on the ceiling? Another important question is where do you put the projector on a ProTee system, with everything else that's already mounted on the ceiling? With short throw projectors getting so good, I would imagine I could get one that could go in front of the front halogen for the putting sensor, but then it would need some sort of protective cage. It might be able to go all the way behind everything but then there would probably be a lot of light pollution from the halogen lamps. It could go on the floor but again that means some sort of protection mechanism. I'm going with a 12' x 9' screen which will fill the wall very nicely, but won't leave much room on the edges to facilitate moving it around. I think with the frame it's going to be 13' 3" wide leaving very little space on the sides.
I'll attach a couple pictures of the space, any tips and tricks you guys can think of to make all this work would be much appreciated. Winter is coming, so I need to get moving on getting this thing up and running. Great forum here!
