  • Best simulator for working on attack angle

    HI Guys,

I have been surfing the forum for a long time and this is my first post. I will be purchasing a launch monitor some time this winter to help improve my game. I am currently a 9 handicap and would like to work on attack angle with the driver, over the past two years I have lost about 20++ yards off my drives. I have hit on a GC2 and it shows my back spin with a driver can be really high some times 3500+++++. as for simulation I really like the idea of being able to play golf with my buddies at home any input would be great thanks

You have different options. Trackman, Flightscope, GC2 with HMT are probably the best or at least high end options. Cheaper lower end options would be P3Pro. Non sim options include high speed video capture or any club attached swing analyser.

Given the average AOA on tour is like plus 1.5, I'd say barking up the wrong tree.

I believe most teaching pros would say that you hit up on the ball with your driver. I reduced the spin on my driver by about 1500 rpm by having a driver fitting (stock driver was what I was fit with).

In terms of sim, the one thing I like about the TM is the ability to tie in video very easily and have up to four cameras.

Tour average AOA for driver last season was actually negative 1.3 with a 2686RPM spin average. Clubhead speed (avg 113) and smash factor (avg 1.48) make up for this slightly negative AOA to give carry distances of 275 yds. .

Sorry. That's what I meant. -1.5. As in not on upswing. I think. Lol

Yep. There are angled sensors that measure club angle of attack. http://www.p3proswing.com/site/about/

The average is meaningless. Most all the bombers hit up, some quite a bit, especially the younger players who were taught by people who understood basic clubhead/ball contact physics. Many of the older players learned to hit down on all clubs as well as that the ball direction was caused by the clubhead path. This was taught by those with no knowledge of simple physics, which probably included the vast majority of teaching pros. Today anyone who doesn't hit up with a driver is giving up free distance.

For those who don't think so go to any golf ball ballistic program and increase the launch angle while keeping the spin constant. There is a reason the USGA limits tee height to 4 inches.
