  • Protee vs Flightscope......... Who do you trust????

I am comparing the differences in analysis of the same shots taken by flightscope x2 and Protee. Please see the data in the attachments. Flightscope is 20 yards farther in carry distance!! When looking at the pictures please note that I am left-handed and the protee picture does not reflect that.

    protee vs flightscope
    Carry distance 117 vs 139
club path 6* vs 4.6* in to out
    Launch angle 25 vs 24.5
    spin rates 9334 vs 6220
    club speed 73.33 vs 80.5
    Ball speed 95.43 vs 100.5

The total distance will be off as I landed in the rough.

This is just my first analysis with one club and just 5 shots total. The trend was always that flightscope was 15 yards or so longer. I did not capture all the data for all shots. I just want to make meaningful conclusions to this. This was a crisply hit shot.

We are at 2300 elevation and I used medium for flightscope, about 3500 I believe. I will adjust this to low elevation. All my protee settings, like drag sliders are set to factory default.

The Protee says 7 iron and the fs says 9 iron. Also, the Protee numbers will depend on how it's set up. Example, 10% negative boost will show 10% less club head speed, ball speed and carry than actual. It may be effected by the set up. Protee needs a good set up.

My post from the other day regarding Protee numbers

Interesting discussion on the Protee numbers. I recently dialed my numbers right in on my Protee, it took a bit of work to do but I'm now very happy with my ball speeds and carry distances. I was fortunate enough to be on a Trackman a few times back in the fall. When on the Trackman I had my ES12 set up to check out how it stacked up ball speed wise and found it to be within 1 mph consistently. With the ball speed numbers, my Trackman report and some general knowledge of my carry distances, I tweaked the ball speed, and drag numbers in the interface to get the desired results. I now have VERY accurate numbers coming off my Protee.

        I guess I don't understand...

Was this indoors? Sufficient length from ball to screen? Metallic sticker used?

You can set the elevation in flightscope too, so idk what medium setting means. Medium fairway firmness maybe?

OP, if the FS is showing you what you see outside on a range, ie, hit a 9 iron to the 139 yard pin, then I'd use the FS to dial in the Protee. Protee users are extremely happy with Protee once dialled in.

I think the big question is confirming that you used metallic stickers for FS readings. Spin seems low for a 9 iron.

Yes metal stickers were used. Tomorrow I will double check all the settings for both flightscope and protee. Making sure all elevations are correct. I will also assign the same clubs in both programs. I am using flightscope 8.0.6. and the current protee. All settings were setup without any "boost". My setup was 108 inches from X2 to ball and over 15 feet from flightscope to screen. New proV1s and fresh metal stickers.

I will get some shots for several clubs. PW, 8 iron and 5 iron first and check for differences between the FS and Protee. I will post the pics for comparison.

BTW-- How do you get a screen shot of Protee?. When I use "prt sc" Printscreen, I get a screen shot of the Protee portal. Is there any way to run Protee in windowed mode to be able to use the snipping tool?

Sorry but if you are 15 feet from FS to screen and you tee at 9 feet that only gives you 6 feet of ball flight which I don't think is sufficient for radar.

I understand 6 feet is too little. I have exactly 10 feet 3 inches from ball to screen (as per protee recommendations for their setups). That should give me plenty of distance to get 2 rotations for accurate flightscope readings for most clubs. Perhaps not a driver, but most others.

Medium is the altitude setting for flightscope. Exactly what that setting is I will determine tomorrow. Tonight it is too cold to go out to the shop to test anything.

If FS to ball is 108" and ball to screen is 10'3", wouldn't FS to screen be 21'3"? You said 15'.

As for print screen, are you maybe using a separate monitor? That may be the issue there.

The distances are exactly. 113 inches from FS to Ball and 11 feet 4 inches from ball to screen.
I am using a single monitor.

My goal here is to calibrate the protee to most realistic simulation. The flightscope is just to compare the Data. Next comes the tweaking of Protee to get it set. After getting good data, I will make the needed adjustments. Exactly how to do that will require the members of the forum's expertise and wisdom.

My game is currently too erratic to say my 9 iron carries a certain distance (20 handicap). That is why I cannot say that one is closer to real than the other. Certainly, I like the distance if it is real. I am looking forward to getting this right. Thank you everyone for helping me look for possible errors in the comparisons so that I can make better assessments.

Let's get some Apple's to Apple comparison and go from there

BTW, I have a demo unit of X2 while my Flightscope Kudu is in for repair.

                          Boerdoc,

If you want I can provide you with my tweaks to the protee factory settings, I'm a 2 a handicap and a very good ball striker, so very confident that the tweaks I've made work for me.

I would love to have the tweaks you used. That is very generous. Thank you.

How do you set the elevation in Protee? I can't seem to find it.

I just got down to the simulator and I am checking all the setups for both protee and FS.

I have done some more testing. I have set the flightscope to elevation 2300ft.. I calibrated the camera alignment, distance to ball and height of tee surface. The distance from ball to screen is 11 feet 4 inches. All protee settings for drag, spin and speed are factory defaults. I did use ZMAX's settings in Alt-e for most things except alignment.

I summarized the info in Sheet1 from the protee manually. I included the flightscope report as well in case anyone wants to see each shot from the Flightscope also. I did not include the launch angles as they were almost exact on each shot for both protee and FS.

The trends were that in the shorter iron (9) protee was longer in total distance but shorter carry, (5) iron was almost the same and for the (3 hybrid) the flightscope was longer total and equal carry. Within 5% for most data except the spin numbers.

Spin rates were VERY different. All shots were taken with new ProV1s with a metal dot from flightscope, clear and shiny. The flightscope was 33-39% lower than protee. An interesting finding was that the roll out was greater for protee even with the very high spin rates probably because i was playing augusta with all shots landing in the fairway (hard surface).

Any ideas on why the off spin rates. I am playing Mizuno 850 forged irons with Project 6.0 shafts. I was hitting the ball too high with my previous clubs (Mizuno 825s). I will check my spin numbers at Golftec tomorrow if I can.

Any thoughts on how to dial in the settings a bit. Or ideas on how to test more accurately.

I have a demo of flightscope 10.0.1. Would this be more accurate??

Thanks for any help or guidance.
