How long for a foursome to play

How long for a foursome to play a round of 18 holes? I played with my usual foursome and we only got through 9 in more than 2.5 hours. There was no computer problems or lots of rewinds. This seems like a long time to me. When playing TGC we do not know who is next like protee. Similarly, TGC does not give a distance remaining that I know of so that you can put one club in the bag and pull the next to be ready.

I can play 18 with my son who knows the computer, keystrokes and shortcuts in easily less than 2 hours. Solo, It is about 50 minutes even shooting 85-90. With 2 you more or less know who is next. Not so with 4.

Any ideas on how to speed it up?

Yeah I used to run a league in my garage. 6 guys, 1v1, 3 matches, 9 holes. It took about 50 min for each match. And I really had to move them along to get there.

No practice swings, next person needed to know roughly what shot was up next, if their greenside they can have their lob wedge ready or wahtever they use. No wind.

Knowing the way around the controls helps a lot too. And of course gimmies. Not putting really cuts down on time. But if you want to put, make a generous gimmie length, like 10'.

Overall though, everyone should have the mind set to be ready to play. Just like in real life, I hate slow play, so anyone that comes over knows that I expect them to know whats going on.

It would help a lot if TGC showed distance remaining to hole as well as up next. Maybe the players names in the top left could just be ordered by who is up first through last, along with a distance remaining to pin next to their name. That'd take care of both those issues in one spot.

Yeah it can take almost longer sometimes for a foursome w/putting. Since you never really know who is up next. Not to mention you can't have two people set to take their shots. You almost need to plan on 4 hrs for it. More so if they are new to the system.

Just took us just over 4 hrs to play magnolia today with putting.
