Protee VX Review

For those that bought the VX, did you have to pay a customs fee or duty. Some retailers have said the price did not include customs. If the custom/duty are not included what was the fee?

Country you live in would dictate this.... I'm sure we would get screwed here in Canada

There are options to buy within Canada and not worry about the duty.

I purchased from www.SimulatorHQ.com - I highly recommend them based on my experience. They are west coast USA based.

My VX was shipped directly from Protee in Netherlands. SimulatorHQ sent me an email that they were monitoring the shipment, and would pay all tariffs as part of my standard purchase price. I did receive an email from the shipper that $45 was due on receipt, but then SimulatorHQ paid it as they said and I received a follow-up email that it had been paid. Very seamless experience, status emails throughout the ordering, shipment and delivery process, to include the license keys for ProTee.

How do you switch the unit on/off? I am planning to automate my sim room so want to plan for it. Also if I make a laminated glass protection for it do you think it will affect the accuracy?

You don't. When you shut the software down the unit goes into sleep mode.

I wondered the same thing and asked Protee about it because the only way to physically turn the unit on/off is with the switch on the unit itself. That was going to be a pain in the butt getting up to the ceiling every time if you had to power it down.

Don't know about the guarding. Protee is supposedly working on a guard or working with a 3rd party on something. As others have said, it would take a mega sky ball to actually hit the unit. At least for myself, I'm way more likely to shank one into the wall than I am to sky a ball at that angle. But there's definitely that 1% concern in the back of my mind with my kids or others at some point hitting one so bad that it could hit the VX.

In my 3 years of owning my sim which is a 14x9 screen with 5' sides and hit 10' from the screen I have had a total of 1 ball hit above and outside of the enclosure. This one ball was due to someone using a tee way too high and I have since removed any tees from my sim over 2". I have had every type of player you can think of and I for one am not going to worry about protection when I buy my overhead unit.

The smart outlet approach is exactly what I did. I had some issues with the ethernet adapter when I first hung the VX, and it would lock up - the error message in ProTee Labs would say to powercycle the VX by flipping the red switch. I found myself jumping up on a ladder to power cycle it multiple times, so I just eventually swapped the outlet to one that I can control from ground level. I leave the outlet on, but I can toggle it without a ladder now if needed...

Planning to get a switchbot for turning my pc on/off.

Possible to put a switchbot on the Protee? Either that or the smart socket.

Is the switch a rocker switch or a pc type push button switch?

Possible to fix a switchbot for it?

It's a rocker switch. Have had a few times where I needed to power cycle when it lost connection and I've been able to jab it with the butt end of a club rather than climbing up there.

Question to anyone who has the VX with multiple hitting locations. Do you notice any difference on ball and club data depending on where you hit from? I hit my driver from a fixed tee and hit everything else off my holy grail insert. I was thinking I would put the alignment board so that it would partially cover both areas but that would mean I would not be hitting anything dead center.

The split screen feature for Protee labs in on the work. You can run TGC2919 or GSpro and Protee labs in a split screen however.

I have my Protee connected to an outlet that is controlled by a light switch. So, I close the software or shutdown the PC and then on the way out of the room, I turn off the lights and the light switch with the Protee and projector.

Same here. Separate switches for lights, Protee , screens and projector. Takes less than 20 secs to get first hit underway and about 3 secs to shut it all down.

You would have approximate a 2ft hitting area. I have a hitting strip which is where I hit the irons and I usually use tees outside of that area. Also, I moved my putting green back so that the Protee picks up the ball on the edge of my putting green. That allows me to putt from the putting green instead of from the hitting area. In my setup, I basically have three spots. Iron, driver, putter.

The alignment board won’t partially cover both areas. The alignment board is much smaller than the hitting area. When you turn the machine on for calibration, you will put the alignment board in the space where the cameras see it, then you can make the hitting area as big as you can (covering the two areas).
