Given the accuracy of putting I saw between the Protee VX and the GC3 I thought it would be important to test the accuracy of chipping/pitches and flop shots between the 2 units. Once again I made sure I aligned the units as close to each other as possible. I used TaylorMade TP5 PIX balls. I also used the Mthunt chair method to help combat any interference between the units. Seemed to work fine. I used my 58 wedge (short chips), 52 wedge (medium chips), PW (longer pitches) and 58 degree wedge for flop shots. For each type of approach I hit 5 shots – one straight, 2 left and 2 right - and calculated the averages. The focus was on comparing the carry, backspin, vertical launch angle (VLA) and horizontal launch angle (HLA) between the 2 monitors. The data collected was from VX Protee Labs and directly from the GC3 both at 0 altitude.
What I found is that the Protee VX is very close with the GC3 numbers when looking at carry distance, spin, VLA and HLA. The carry distance was very similar between the 2 units with the VX being slightly lower. This may be due to the slightly lower launch angle on the VX vs the GC3 or the different software algorithms calculating the carry. Horizontal azimuth was extremely close. Backspin was within a few hundred rpm of the GC3. Overall the short game chips and pitches were very similar. Both units picked up very short chips very well. Very impressive.
