  • Protee VX Wish List

I finally had some time to play around with some settings and experiment more with the VX last night and it made me think of a wish list as the software continues to be developed. A lot of these things have already been confirmed to be in development in some form so hopefully it's just a matter of time.

    1. The big one for me is still the ability to have the range and summary tabs run on two screens. I like the VX range a lot. Especially since it's ready to go a whole lot faster than it takes me to get TGC opened, connect it, navigate to the range, etc. But beyond that, I like the layout, I like the apex and distance pop ups and just the general feel of the VX range. I discovered, or re-discovered since Protee had shown me this in a demo, that I could get the data boxes to show up on the same screen as the range. You click on the "Always on Top" option in the settings and the data will overlay at the bottom of the range screen.

This is a good 80% solution for me. I love having the impact video, but most of the time like last night I'm most interested in the swing path, speeds, and I just like watching the ball flight after taking a shot. If there's something funky at impact that I want to see I can always switch tabs and check it out. It's not bad until Protee can figure out the 2 tab and split screen option.

As a half measure, it would be cool if you could also have the impact video box as an option that could be always on top on the range also. If it could show up on the right side of the screen above the data boxes where nothing else is going on that would be pretty sweet.

    2. While playing around in screens I also saw an option to change the range hardness and one of those options now says Green. There's even a stimpmeter slider in there as well. My thought was this would be really cool if it simulated hitting into a green rather than just showing normal fairway roll. It didn't turn out to work that way though. I'm assuming this mode is for putting practice as the total distance converted to feet rather than yards.

It's an interesting option for putting since you can dial in different green stimps and work on distances, but just not something I'm likely to use much. But if the whole range acted like a green and gave you a better feel for rollout after landing on a green that seems like it would be a nice feature. Maybe the Fairway Soft setting simulates that closely enough, but I haven't messed with that yet and have just been using Fairway Medium.

    3. Finally, it's Shot Recording, dispersion data, bag mapping, etc. This is also been acknowledged as something they're working on and there is already a Shot Recording checkbox in the software, but that data isn't accessible for now. Hopefully this is one coming soon as it seems to be a pretty standard feature on other LMs I've used.

Still loving the VX and like I said, a lot of these things are supposedly in development. What concerned me was looking at the changelog none of them were really listed as coming features. Most of those were all centered around AI improvements. I'm sure that'll be great, but as I keep using the VX more I keep hoping we'll see at least #1 and #3 rolled out sooner rather than later.

Everything you wrote is exactly right. For me, your 3rd point is the most critical. I really need to be able to see the shot data from a session (by club used). It’s an easy workaround to launch TGC 2019/GS Pro for the range and have the shot data on the other screen. I usually put the second screen on the summary screen so that I can see the critical data and see a replay of the club impact.

I did check the box, but as you said, no way to access the data. To me, that’s the biggest gap right now.

It would also be interesting to know if it will be possible to add a data point (face closure rate).

      My wishlist:

      1. Fix Gspro putting that is way too fast. Might be a Gspro problem but even then Protee could have an option to slow it down.
      2. Swing camera integration. Think they are working on that.
      3. Would like to have club speed and ball speed in MPH/Imperial and rest in metric. Most of Europe measures golf figures that way.
      4. Option to make Protee Labs auto connect to Gspro on startup.

        Isn't this already possible?

How about adding face closure rate?

I think that's doable with the video.

You would think so, but currently, not sure how much I trust swing path and angle of attack numbers.

I did a lesson on a QED last week and was seeing very similar numbers to my VX as far as swing path. So I have even more faith in that now. I agree on the angle of attack though as sometimes those numbers just seem a little weird. QED doesn't give that so I can compare.
I will say I was seeing low launch angles with driver on the VX and having some issues. Then saw the same thing on the QED. We spent about a half hour just working on driver since it's been giving me fits for awhile. Made a club adjustment and alignment adjustment at the lesson and fixed that, but haven't compared the new setup on the VX yet.
But the VX and QED were both showing the low launch, low spin, dead flight before the tweaks.

Looks like #3 has been granted at least in part with the update that just went out. My previous shots from the past now show up under the history tab in ProTee Labs in a huge table format, and clicking on an individual shot (row of the table) basically re-populates all of the fields in the user interface like the shot had just taken place.

I can’t wait to check that out. I am taking down my enclosure and putting up a new one today and tomorrow. I will test it out this weekend.

That's awesome! Haven't had time the last few days to hit so will hopefully have a chance to check out the update this weekend.

Yes this is great. They will eventually allow for individual club selection, averages etc. Looking great so far.

That is pretty basic right? If those seem inaccurate all your other data will be unreliable?

No. I don’t think so at all. The ball data is right on the number. I tested side-by-side with another launch monitor. As far as club data, I am going through to be meticulous about my device calibration. I did some testing with putter today and I think the club data that was causing me concerns is down to setup error.

I don't know if it's a calculated number or how it works but it seems like the AI plays into the Attack Angle somehow because it's something they've called out in the changelog and continuing to work on improvements. I've definitely seen some weird attack angle numbers, but even on those flight, ball data, etc. all felt like they were in line.

As mentioned before, I've seen enough with the club path now that I've got good confidence in it.

I'm also seeing the exact change in numbers on the VX that I was getting on the QED during my lesson. i.e. I made a swing change that was picking up about 7 yards on my irons and doing the same thing at home is showing exactly the same result.

First time posting here - i have been reading these threads quite a bit for advice on my sim build and it has been extremely helpful. I settled on a VX and it is going to be delivered later this month. Could you tell me a bit more about the set-up error that caused issues with club data? It would be helpful to know for when I set mine up. Thanks!
