  • Protee VX optimal number of Monitors

Hi all, Protee VX ordered and arrival expected in about a week. Custom timber build underway with screen done, framing beginning soon.

Keen on getting advice on what is the optimal number of screens. The computer planned will be high end and have oodles of display/hdmi ports.
My proposal so far would be to have 4K hitting screen, a second 55" screen showing the hitting metrics and club flight etc. Third screen would be a 24" touch screen for the rest of OS / Course selection / Navigation etc.

The 4K is locked in, I have a spare 55" TV and will acquire probably a Dell 24 Touch USB-C Hub Monitor - P2424HT
Had contemplated getting a 55" touch, however, budget is creeping up a bit with the Protee/Benq 4k LK936ST/new Computer + the screen/enclosure, all adding up!

Would love to get your thoughts.

Image below is the completion of the screen install (Carl's Place 13' x 8.5', 16:10 ratio).
Been hitting a few balls with Driver and 7i. Ball returning everytime perfectly back to the same spot I hit from. (Couldnt be happier with the result).

Next phase is to build the enclosure which will be top, sides + sub floor over existing carpet.

I use 3 screens. One is a screen dedicated to the VX software by my hitting area. One is the projector and one is my desktop which is in another room. The desktop and projector are mirrored and the VX screen is separate. Works perfect for me.

I have 3 screens: projector, tv, and laptop. But 2 of them are mirroring each other depending on what I'm doing.

When using TGC I have that on the projector and the VX data on the TV and laptop.
Lately I've just been using the VX range since it's faster to start up so I just mirror that on the projector and TV. Laptop is just an empty screen.

I researched a fair bit on the forum about timber frame builds and on several pieces of advice I landed at 4" bungees with a 1 inch gap between screen edge and frame. I also have a light moving blanket (3 pieces overlapped a bit) and 3" memory foam covering the whole back of the screen. The attachment method used is with squashed-down 1" pipe clamps.
Noise mitigation and ball return were paramount to me. That's why the project has been split up into 2 major parts, firstly the screen and interactiveness of ball etc, and secondly the enclosure.

Once up and tested the screen was not taught enough visibly for my liking. A few tests had the ball returning close to feet, however the screen was a bit sloppy. I then subsequently decided to tighten the bungees to basically close the gap from 1" down to Zero. Here is a few photos.

Note the foam is anchored by a full-width timber bolted down. There is no way that foam is coming out. It is so tight I had no need for the 15 or so bolts I planned on putting in. (hence all the vacant bolt holes). Only needed 5.

As said previously the ball returns every time to feet, be it 7i or Driver. (figured that covers all necessary scenarios)

I have planned for a small ramp at the screen end, about 4" high and 40" long (ie 10:1 ratio). IHave discovered it really isn't needed as I also now know that the first bounce of the ball off the screen is at about 35 to 40 ", so this ramp will only be useful for putts and chips.

Noise mitigation is the best I can do for now and once the enclosure is built, more soundproofing added wherever possible.

My one piece of advice is to plan for the bungees to be made tighter (or looser).

          I have three screens. 1 projector, 1 touchscreen monitor, 1 70” TV.

          1. Projector - Runs Protee labs, GS Pro, or TGC 2019. Even for range sessions, For playing golf, obviously, the projector runs the golf course. However, if I am doing a range session, typically, I will still use GS Pro or TGC to run the range so that I can:
          2. Monitor - used for running Protee labs to show all shot data. Instead of flipping back and forth on tabs while using the range, I just leave the labs software on the Summary tab so I can see all of the shot data including the replay of the shot.
          3. TV is sometimes used for cameras on the golf swing. However, if I am not using the cameras then I usually use the 3rd screen for watching TV while in the SIM. Nothing better than watching golf while playing golf. I also like using the third screen for YouTube. Because in case you didn’t know everyone needs to spend time watching YouTube golf instruction and trying it out in their sim. It’s the surest way to screw up your swing and make sure you have to spend more time in the sim.

Thats a great help thanks. It confirms my thoughts on the screens I think i will need and had planned.

The touch screen and the 70" TV seem to be an appropriate complement to the projector.

Thanks again to yours and others similar suggestions. Helps me to continue to progress with the build.
