  • Protee VX new user questions

My new VX unit arrived last week and I got it installed last weekend. Big upgrade from my old Skytrak box (which served me well for the last 10 years!). I'm still getting used to the unit and the Lab software. But I have a couple of initial questions that I'm hoping to get help with:
    • When I start the Lab software it automatically connects to the VX unit, and the VX fan starts running, which is quite loud. The fan will continue to run until I disconnect the Lab software from it? Is this expected? The fan noise is pretty loud - much louder than the projector. If this is expected I'm sure I'll get used to it! But I want to make sure it's not a problem with the unit itself.
    • The back spin rate when I hit Driver is much lower than what I get from the Skytrak box. Spin rates for other clubs seems similar with the Skytrak. But for my Driver, very often I'll get a spin rate in the low hundreds - so I get a knuckle ball flight which doesn't go very far in the simulator. Anyone run into this with their VX unit? Any way to mitigate it?
    Thanks for the help.

I think the fan noise is normal. Maybe you're getting an echo that makes it sound louder or you have a very quiet projector. I don't normally notice the fan when using it so it's probably something you get used to.

What I have had happen is after a power outage the VX fan will start running even without the software on. That's been noticeable to me when everything else in the room is quiet and a quick power cycle takes care of it.

Interesting. I didn’t even know my ProTee VX had a fan. I’m in a fairly large space so perhaps the sound is dissipated or quieter than the fan from my BenQ projector which I definitely can hear.

The fan shouldn't be loud. Mine isn't. Does it stop after VX is off for a while? As for low spin driver that might be you. Try other drivers and see. I used to get low spin on my GC2 sometimes. Not so much now.

Thanks for the responses guys. The attached image shows what I mean about the low spin rate. 147mph ball speed - which is pretty decent for me. Launch angle not bad. Bit of a pull. But -142rpm back spin, and the carry is only 116yds! There has to be something wrong with that read.

In terms of the fan - it does stop running when I disconnect the Lab software. But while it's connected it run constantly and (to my ears) is pretty loud. Maybe, as someone suggested, I just need to get used to it! But my biggest concern is the spin rate

Are you sure your not striking the ball way out on the toe of the driver on this shot? What does the shot video look like?
Based on the extreme negative spin axis paired with very low spin, I'd be willing to bet you had a pretty significant toe strike

That's crazy low spin. Must be a miss read. Does this happen a lot? I get low now and then but it's always high toe and a miss hit but -142 is crazy.

I started with hitting with TP5 PIX balls per the advice from Protee Support, and I seem to be getting more consistent backspin numbers with them. I've also submitted a lot of shots to support where the ball data shows a closed face-to-path angle, but a positive (fade) side spin. It seems like different algorithms/process is used to calculate spin and ball data, and they are not corelated. But today I installed the latest beta build - the release notes had a few bullet points about better spin calculation. And the numbers do seem better with this build. I didn't have any shorts where the face-to-path angle and the side spin numbers didn't match. I do like how responsive the Protee support team are. Can't wait to try out their new GolfCore system.

Look at all the club data including where it contacts on the face, angle on attack etc
          Working...
