Wired or wireless?

Skytrak should be in soon, getting ready to start the build. My setup is gonna be in the garage. I do have wi-fi, but have slowdowns with it when the kids are over and all have their iPhones out. In you guys opinions, would I be better served to get a wi-fi extender or an ethernet cable? Pros and cons please................

I have PC with SkyTrak and play TGC

I would suggest wired ethernet to the pc and wifi direct between the pc and skytrak. (skytrak will show as an access point to the pc)

Has anyone reported using those Powerlink/powerline wifi adapters as "hardwiring" for PC-sim setups? Uses the electrical wiring in the home to extend the internet into whichever room. Plugs into ethernet of your PC. There is always loss of efficiency but better than true wifi. ?

My PC is connected via ethernet. Been using my skytrak in USB mode. When trying to connect wirelessly, I can't seem to discover the Skytrak, even as an access point. Any tips?

I have my setup in my attached garage as well. I'll be honest, my opinion is, why not use the SkyTrak hard wired to my laptop through a USB cable? Logically, I figure I am removing one thing (connecting by Wi-Fi) that could possibly have an issue. My laptop connects to my house Wi-Fi, and I have had no issue with using the SkyTrak software or TGC. I even bought a 10' USB cable to ensure I had enough slack if I want to move my laptop stand further away from my SkyTrak.

Hey Lgnir, if the USB route works for you, then I'd say stick with it. However, many people (myself included) have seen that wifi really cuts down on the no-reads. It really doesn't make sense, but it sure works this way for me. I would have 4 - 5 no reads a round in TGC when I was using USB. I play multiple rounds with zero no reads after going to wifi.

The cons of wifi are loss in connectivity occasionally and having to be diligent on charging the ST battery.

Interesting...couldn't you solve the battery issue by just having the ST plugged in to charge, or will it not work in network mode if it's "plugged in"?

Sorry, forgot to mention this will be with a laptop and will go with JNPG later. Probably looking at going ethernet since my wi-fi gets loaded down AND my signal will be weaker in the garage. Anybody got a wiring diagram that tells me how to hard wire everything and what cables to use? My modem and router are in the living room roughly 20 feet from where my hitting area will be. I have no problem running the wiring thru the attic.Would like to buy the right stuff the first time if ya know what I mean............

Easiest just to buy an ethernet cable with a plug at each end if you're only doing this once - tape over the plugs while pulling it through the attic. Plug it into the router, and into the notebook. You can buy them many places. for example https://www.walmart.com/ip/Fosmon-10...-Blue/41381337

It seems counter-intuitive, but wifi direct between the SkyTrak and PC works better than USB. Some have suggested it's because of the power-saving schemes that may cycle the usb port off. Don't really know, but I no longer hang up in TGC or stop reading shots - just works. I have the SkyTrak usually plugged into a charger 99% the time.

What do you use between your PC and projector? HDMI, VGA, etc. ?

Update-built a new shop behind the house, hitting bay all set with Creative Golf 3D, and full strength internet using MOCA adapters at each end of a cable run underground from the house to the shop. Not wireless in the shop, just Ethernet cable from the MOCA to my laptop. Using HDMI with a splitter to BOTH projectors, a short throw for the sim and a long throw for movies, sports, etc.......
