Anyone else getting the 3 degree right or left putting issues playing TGC?

    Putting correction set to OFF just made it worse for me as others mentioned. Now instead of the occasional 3 degrees right, I get 6 or 7 degrees right (or left).

      I do aswell see the right had misses on puts that I think are straight. I am sure glad that it is not me and it is the machine. Now it would be nice if skytrak would come up with a fix for this or explain why it occurs.

        Just played round 2 of the Honda and it is becoming unplayable. Tried putting correction off and it makes it a lot worse. On is locked at 3 degrees, Off is 7-8 degrees. It wouldn't be to bad if it was only one direction but when it's both directions it makes guessing difficult.

          I've owned my ST for about 3 months now. I bought TGC and have played it since day 1. I can say since the first time I teed it up in TGC that I've felt a right bias when putting. I'd like to call it a right bias to try and hone in on the problem without getting too technical. It's pretty obvious that the putting correction ON/OFF doesn't fix the issue.

          Caveat - alignment of the ST can be done in 2 ways. It's been discussed a lot in the forum about whether to align with laser dots or ST face. There are 2 camps. I've been in both at one time or another. If I align to laser dots, my ST needs to be rotated open a few degrees to the target. If I do that, my right bias in putting will be fixed (for the most part). Problem is, I don't feel the ball flight is accurate when I align to laser dots. In short, I have a left bias with everything else. This makes me compensate with my golf swing and it has shown up IRL golf. I will fight the right miss all day because I've been compensating on my sim to keep everything from going left. So, I've went back to aligning to ST face. Thus, the right bias when putting is what I have to fight again. What I don't like about it is I can minimize the right bias when putting by simply aiming left, but that is no good for my golf game either.

          A few questions for ST users. Is it a right bias when putting? What is acceptable? If it was fixed, what would most mimic real life putting?

          We must remember that putting is hard and at times one of the most frustrating things in the game. I certainly don't want to make everything, but don't like seeing the ball squirt right every time.

            Putting in real life is very tough as well because sometimes we can't read the green correctly or just miss the break etc... So I've just accepted this issue and moved on and figure wth I'm already getting 6 ft gimmies so I'll take the occasional miss to the right if it happens.. It was driving me crazy when the screen popped up after the shot and it said 3 degrees right so I just turned off the post shot info and I feel much better now lol.... There's nothing we can do I guess like you said if you align your skytrak a different way then your ball flight gets wonky and that's 100x worse IMO.. I feel like every time I go to play my skytrak is aligned differently and it's frustrating thinking I'm hitting the ball well but everything hooks or pushes right seemingly randomly.. I'm saving my pennies for a GC2 next year, the skytrak is great for the money but there's just a few issues I don't like

          I don't notice this in JNPG, with an FMJ, with the bars (I didn't cut them out despite some implying bars were the issue, and no bars == better case). Is anyone playing JNPG getting the issue? Perhaps this isn't Skytrak but TGC.

            Putting with ST has low tolerance in general. This is hardware related and will not be improved. This is seen with E6 and JNPG. It's not a TGC issue. Lets not even debate this. JNPG software sets a limit to the putting horizontal angle. With JNPG one doesnt even get data of spin/launch/horizontal etc. Try putting very far to the right or left with JNPG. You will notice the ball goes relatively straight. The software limits the degree by which the horizontal angle is represented such when you are putting at 10 degrees left it will go at say 2 degrees left. E6 doesn't have this software limits so if you putt 15 degrees left, that's what you get. TGC has some software limits set with putting factor ON but we may need to adjust it some more. The fact is, the putting with ST is a hardware limitation that will not improve due to the hardware. Now lightning up the unit better, moving the ball close to unit with putts, etc may help but don't expect TGC putting accuracy with ST.

              Is there a way to adjust just for a certain distance? I find it worse on putts from 6-10'. Outside of this, i think speed starts to overcome this. I don't recall seeing any putts with decent length jump offline like this.

                If the issue tends to be the slower speed putts or even chips for that matter, I have always thought an easy way to help with this issue would be to add a feature to the games software so that skytrak users could have a tab to click on. This tab would then reduce the next shot taken by a set amount. Could be 50% for example so its easy to calculate. So this way if you only have a 6-8 foot putt and know this is the trouble zone and would rather be able to hit the ball harder, then trigger that tab so the next shot is reduced by 50%. You would then putt your 6 or 8 foot putt like it were a 12 or 16 foot putt. As long as 12 foot is still not in the trouble zone. Similar should work for short chips. A trouble 10 foot chip now you can hit it like a 20 foot chip and you decide when to trigger this mode.

                Sounds like there is a setting now where you can use actual read or one that would help with making the chip go straight. This way you could still get actual off line and actual spin but there would need to be some testing to know how much spin to reduce as a 50% on each may not be accurate for spin and it may need to be a graduated scale. You may also have a set yardage where the tab will become usable, like 20 yds so that you are not dealing with full shot spin numbers.

                Just seems that so much of the skytrak trouble is the shorter shots.

                  Bummer that this is purely SkyTrak related. Can anyone comment on other hardware and putting? Does GC2 handle putting better? I know keither5150 has a GSA and says putting is phenomenal. He has also been doing some testing with his system and a SkyTrak at the same time. Maybe he can compare these medium to short putts in his next session and comment?

                  For the record, I still think putting with SkyTrak is really good and I have zero experience with any other systems. Could it be better? Sure sounds like it.

                    Wbond and SFR have some interesting thoughts. What you guys are thinking can totally be done by Skytrak. They just need to write the code and then give the user the option to ..... decrease speed by set % on putts less than set distance. They can do the same with chipping around the green. Have a minimum backspin for chipping around the green that starts at a set distance. Sometimes I see chips on ghost balls that roll out unrealistically. GSA and ProTee have a bunch of settings that allow the player to more duplicate their real life game. During our GSA/Skytrak session. I noticed that there was a variance in HA. Some shots were identical and then the next shot, GSA would be 7 yards left on a 180 yard shot. We were a little puzzled with this. We probably spent too much time trying to align the Skytrak to match my GSA. I read this weekend that the ST has a HA of +/- 2 degrees whereas GSA has +/- 0.65 degrees. That would explain why every shot was not bang on. The very first shot we took had the ball within a foot or two of each other on a 150 yard shot. I do feel that ST is a great product and it is awesome to be portable. It does have some hardware limitations like Bubba said. Launch monitors in general will not be as accurate as camera systems when comparing HA. But LM's have a big advantage of measuring spin. Camera systems calculate spin and are generally pretty good but not as accurate as LMs. If I could add a thought that would totally help ST putting.....

                    One reason GSA putting is crazy accurate is that they change the exposure time for the cameras resulting in a longer ball trace. This provides a longer distance for measurement and more accurate putting. I have my green speed set to match my indoor carpet that I have between the tee and the screen. On a flat green, if I putt 6 feet, it goes 6 feet. It would be even more accurate if TGC measured putting distance to the 1/10 of a mph. This increased exposure time also increases the accuracy of HA. This method of increasing accuracy may be able to be done on a LM to a certain extent. Maybe they already do this to some point.

                    LM's already round of to the nearest degree for HA. This is sometimes an advantage and sometimes not. Perhaps there can be some settings that can be added to help the ST users more easily duplicate their RL game.

                      I captured all of my putts during the last TGC tournament using my ST. I had 5 right misses. 2 of those were 3.0 right misses. 3 of those were 1.0 right misses. Both 3.0 misses were on longer putts. I'd say it's not that bad. The problem for me is I have to aim left to produce this. It's manageable though and I rarely miss left but occasionally it'll throw in a -2.0 HA just to piss me off. Is this what others are seeing? Does aiming left solve the issue for you?

                        Thanks Bubba22 this is pretty much become obvious since the JNPG players don't get the same. Hopefully TCG/SkyTrak will change the putting correction to either tighten the notch, or actually allow entry of a variable similar to stimp or hardness.

                        I still the think the skytrak is pretty impressive engineering at the price point. Challenging task to measure accurately over a range of 5 - 12,000 feet-per-second.

                          Yes that's true. A tightened putting algo is there already with ST in the settings. We will get another option soon to even tighten up more.

                        I'm fairly sure that SkyTrak does enter a different mode when putting in TGC. I did some slo-mo videos and the flash rate is slowed way down.

                        You can see it here usually it just looks like a single flash when ball striking.

                          I'd love to know if putting was one of the original design targets when the device was first designed...at first look, it would seem so much easier to measure something moving so slow...however, typical ball flight has some fraction of a revolution while in the capture zone and putting makes 2 or 3 full revolutions - therefore using markings to learn anything about ball travel is more difficult (impossible?) With a driver, the lowest launching ball, even if the HA is off slightly (+/-2') - the spin data can still be used to shape the flight. With putting, it's purely HA.

                          And, the ball is at a pretty low angle to the camera and flash and clearly not in the sweet spot of the field of view. If you are using the change in the apparent "size" of the ball - it would get harder the further off of horizontal that you go.
