  • Skytrak low spin issue - need please help

Hi all, I please ask help you to resolve if possible this problem that recently had.
My Skytrak unit gives me very very low spin numbers with my irons.
I never exceed the 3000 rpm with 9 or 7 iron. Please look at the photos attached. This clearly affects all other parameters (distance, roll, etc.).
As it is all results are false.
    Woods seems looks well instead.
I specify: 1. I tried different and new balls with same results. 2. The unit is leveled and on the mat. 3 ball is placed on the red dot. 4 Before of these episodes the unit was working well (the problem I had with the low launch angle was definitely me). 5. Tried with and without the protective case. 6. When I top the ball spin increases almost to normal level (about 5000 rpm). Previously I had about 9000 rpm with 9 iron and 7000 rpm with the 7. 7. I put off the unit and then on again. 8. The unit is clean and put a black mark on some (not all) ball used. 9. Launch angle and direction seem very precise and good.
So please I ask you if there is a solution to this problem or if any of you already had this issue and thank you in advance to everyone

1st, I wouldn't put the ST directly on the mat.

Next, what kind of balls are you using? I've experimented with range balls, 2 piece, and 3-4 piece premium balls. The variety in and launch angle truly amazed me. Never realized how big a factor the ball is before.

Honestly, based on your launch angle (which is pretty high) and obvious low spin I bet you're catching these a hair heavy, you're basically hitting fliers. I've done it many times myself. As soon as I get a decent strike with a good ball, spin rates go back to normal.

Looks like a cheap ball that's rolling up the face.

I get this with low compression balls, mostly women's golf balls. I can hit a short iron a ridiculous distance because they don't spin and they launch stupid high on Skytrak. It also can be that you are striking the ball differently today vs the other day. Depends on how consistent you are. I would think hitting a little fat and then high on the face might produce those types of flights with even a high spinning ball (flyers as was said by jut). This is just from my experience. Odds are in your favor that the Skytrak is reading correctly, its just showing you a contact or ball issue.

You could probably check the club face issue by using some impact tape, or spraying your club face with some foot powder. I thought I was getting some weird readings with my driver until I used impact tape and discovered I was hitting extremely low on the face.

Funny you mention that. Same thing for me, I couldn't get a driver to launch higher then 9 degrees for awhile. Did the foot powder test and I was practically missing the face they were so low. duh. For some reason I just can't hit driver indoors. No problem with other clubs, but I have a real indoor block with the driver.

You and me both!! I thought for sure it was my SkyTrak until I pulled out the impact tape. (I need to start using the foot powder though) I was amazed by where I was hitting the ball on the club face, and like you said, I think it's that "indoor swing vs outdoor swing issue".

Just got back from the indoor range where I bring my skytrak to practice. It was empty so I did a little ball comparison to illustrate what I've seen before. I was hitting my 47 crisp spinning at 2500 flying 142-149 with what I'd call decent range balls. Thats not a humble brag, it's BS. Then I hit 5 chromesofts. Launched 3 degrees lower and spun right around 9k flying 124-128.

It seems there is a bit of a sweet spot between about 5-8 iron for me where I don't see much difference between crap balls and good balls. The high and low end of the bag, huge differences.

You aren't using impact tape, correct? That always kills my spin and increases launch for me.
