    Improved Short Game Mode

SkyTrak_Seth I believe there was a plan to improve the short game mode for use with TGC and maybe even with JNPG. This would be an improvement over what currently exists. What we currently have is an option to turn on short game mode in TGC, which makes it easily pick up short shorts, but it limits/doesnt read spin over 2k. So one has to decide to live with low spin and read every shot or potentially make multiple swings until a shot is read.

Is an improvement still being considered?

Interested in this as well. I'm currently extremely frustrated with the low spin chip/pitches. It appears that less than 30 yards you're going to get the low spin and over 30 yards you're going to get the mega spin which is extremely hard to adjust to. Why can't we get a blend?

I've tried both ways extensively. I liked the shorter spin one for a while because even though it doesn't check up as much, felt the roll out is more similar to what you would see on the course.

Obviously annoying when you are trying to hit that quick checker though. And then changed to the not as well reading version for very short chips as I wanted to be able to play those spiny shots.

That was ok for a little while but the frustrations with very short shots not reading and not being able to hit as high of a flop shot as I wanted sometimes (which just felt like the skytrak didn't like reading constantly in general) is what ultimately lead me to get the gc2.

Would love to see the chipping get to be perfected with the skytrak, that felt like its biggest fault in my eyes

Where am I missing this "short game mode" in TGC, and what exactly does it do? I also heard there is a "putting boost", but I have no idea where that is at and what exactly it does either. Or has this all been addressed in another thread?

If you are on SkyTrak it's in a settings file outside of TGC. You can change both there. There is a TGC for ST interface that you load, then go to settings. I have not heard what putting boost does nor have I messed with it.

You have to go into the notepad file to modify it. I believe it's called short game correction, then it's either on or off. If it's on, it will read chips down to a yard, and I've never had it miss. Problem is it reads/applies very little spin. When in the 9-20yd range, it still applies this, so you get a lot of roll out. If it's off, it doesn't read all the shots and you may hit over and over until it reads, but it will apply the actual spin that was read.

Thanks guys! Very interesting. I have noticed an issue with short chips, so I guess I am turning that thing on! The spin thing concerns me though, but I guess it is better than the no reads. It seems like SkyTrak and TGC (from what I have read) have made a lot of improvements since 2015, and hopefully more will come, with this issue being one of them.

I didn't find the short game correction to be much help, but my frustration with the low spin chips warrants me to give it another shot.

Up until now, there has always been two modes for SkyTrak:

Normal Mode - Picks up everything except putts and very short chips
Putting Mode - Picks up putts and short chips, but only returns speed and side angle. Different sim partners have dealt with this in different ways.

The new firmware update you recently got in v2.5.4 includes a tweak to putting mode that will deliver all launch data parameters depending on the shot characteristics. The plan is to get all of our sim partners up to speed asap on the new SDK to take advantage of this. (it will be going into the SkyTrak app as well). For sim partners, it probably makes the most sense to auto-enable this mode based on proximity to the flag, and to also have a manual toggle so the user can override.

SkyTrak_Seth Seth, what about the iOS App? How can I change there anything? Same for WGT iOS App.

As a former iOS developer I can tell you, that in the settings of each app on the iOS settings you can allow such changes. Will it be there?
            thanks
            Frank

Right now you cannot. It will need to be included in a future update for both SkyTrak and WGT. Right now, you just have the new SDK behind the scenes that allows for it. One thing at a time There are other factors which make it a bit complicated, but I do understand the importance of it though.
