  • Open Beta - Android Testing

I'm sorry for the delay in getting this posted...obviously there have been some bigger fish to fry. So here it is - the first round of open testing for Android. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do NOT contact SkyGolf customer support for anything related to this. I'll just try to manage everything in this thread for now. Everything should work the same as what is currently out there for PC and iOS, with the following exceptions:

    1) What testing has proved thus far is that your Android device must have an octa-core (or dual quad-core) processor. The one I have been using is the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 and it works great. Feel free to install it on any device, but at your own risk. Please don't install it on a 5 year old Android device and be upset that the shot delay is too slow. This is the issue right now with Android...they are way behind iOS on processing power and there are a huge number of devices to pick through, compared to Apple's single-device model per generation. The good news is the latest Android devices seems to be catching up to iPad Air 2 speed.

    2) For some reason, the latest 2 builds have increased the shot delay to almost double (I was seeing about 4 seconds, now about 8). I know that you guys are itching to get your hands on this, so I'm just going to post this first version as-is. Just know that whenever we figure out this delay issue, I'll post another version. For now, expect 8 seconds as the target delay.

    3) I've experienced some re-connection issues if the SkyTrak unit becomes disconnected within a session - often I need to restart the application to re-connect. Again, this will hopefully be sorted soon.

This is not standard policy, more of a gesture, so please be understanding of the above issues and be willing to help us get them resolved.

Just FYI, I don't foresee any of the above issues being difficult to resolve in a timely manner. I just wanted you to be able to get your feet wet

Installed. Will try tonight. Looks like none of the things that were available 2yrs ago when i was an early adopter is available without an upgrade. Never even got to use the LM because no android was available. Kind of a bum deal.

Are you still running an old version of PC or iOS software that was prior to conditionalization (v2.0)? I really just don't see a way around it.

Hi Seth, I did about 45 min of testing today. Did not experience any additional delay in shots (same as my PC 3 seconds). Tested Range, Closest to pin, Target, longest drive and skill test. Click around a few places, changed settings, etc. All seemed good. my device is a Samsung 6 Edge Plus phone. Connected Direct mode.

In fact I was testing it on a bay where I have a camera and Kinovea set up I'll film it and upload to Youtube with my phone in the shot so we can calculate the delay in an accurate way.

Great to hear! I've never seen that connection issue. Can you try again and just connect to the unit Wi-Fi, then open the app and let it sit on the dashboard? It should connect on it's own.

I am unable to get past these issues on my galaxy s5 and galaxy note 10.1. These are a little older androids. Note was released in 2013 and s5 in 2014, but they both have quad core processors. I think they have enough juice if I could get past connection issues. Any particular version of android we need to be using?

Ok, tried again tonight and my s5 connected and stayed connected. I will try my note again next time

Yesterday I downloaded the app on my Samsung Note 4 and went to the range for a try. It was a sunny day.
I was surprised how good and fast the app is. The delay was about 6 seconds (4 seconds previously with the Ipad) but in some occasions it was very fast, the delay was of a couple of seconds.
The average delay for this reasons was 4 seconds and the results (direction, distance, ecc.) were quite good (initially I was not sure the Skytrak could work well because of the sunny day and also I am sure that the 6 seconds delay was due to the strong sun going into the lens and delaying the ball process)

Guys, thank you so much for the responses! I'm so glad it's working well. If it's that fast for some of you, I can't imagine what the delay will be once we get it back down to what it was a few weeks ago. Given that it's proving to be stable, I have a few things to clean up on some other stuff and then will try to tackle Android improvements next week. Thanks again for including your device models - it helps us check those off the list!

I've had the opportunity to use the app 4 times now and it's been running smoothly for me. I have a galaxy s6. Took about 5 min getting it connected the first time but since then it starts and connects very fast and the shot delay is less then my computer. Usually I have time to pick my ball back up and toss it on the mat then I can look up and watch the shot take off, but on my phone I hardly have time to drag my ball back and the shots already in process. The only things I've had issues with is changing the values in the range settings. Such as temperature, humidity, elevation. Thanks

I was able to test this out today - no issues. Connected fine, performance and shot delay was great, on par with my PC.

A little late to the party, but I just got my skytrak last week. I had been using my laptop with good results. Got my galaxy s5 phone to connect tonight. At first shot delay was same speed as my laptop (2 secs), but it slowed down some when I switched clubs and stayed the same speed the rest of the session (about 6- 8 seconds). The shot delay does not bother me though. I would say this was a very successful test. Hit balls for an hour and all shots were picked up. I changed between clubs, viewed shot data, changed session settings and in the end connected to network mode! I will probably start using my phone often as I have a temp setup in the garage, so the phone is easier to get set up. Great results for a 3 year old phone I would say. Thanks for getting this to android!!

Is there a way to mirror this app to a tv? Chromecast or something similar?
