  • Open Beta - Android Testing

I'm sorry for the delay in getting this posted...obviously there have been some bigger fish to fry. So here it is - the first round of open testing for Android. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do NOT contact SkyGolf customer support for anything related to this. I'll just try to manage everything in this thread for now. Everything should work the same as what is currently out there for PC and iOS, with the following exceptions:

    1) What testing has proved thus far is that your Android device must have an octa-core (or dual quad-core) processor. The one I have been using is the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 and it works great. Feel free to install it on any device, but at your own risk. Please don't install it on a 5 year old Android device and be upset that the shot delay is too slow. This is the issue right now with Android...they are way behind iOS on processing power and there are a huge number of devices to pick through, compared to Apple's single-device model per generation. The good news is the latest Android devices seems to be catching up to iPad Air 2 speed.

    2) For some reason, the latest 2 builds have increased the shot delay to almost double (I was seeing about 4 seconds, now about 8). I know that you guys are itching to get your hands on this, so I'm just going to post this first version as-is. Just know that whenever we figure out this delay issue, I'll post another version. For now, expect 8 seconds as the target delay.

    3) I've experienced some re-connection issues if the SkyTrak unit becomes disconnected within a session - often I need to restart the application to re-connect. Again, this will hopefully be sorted soon.

This is not standard policy, more of a gesture, so please be understanding of the above issues and be willing to help us get them resolved.

If you have a smart tv then you can use screen mirror.

I just tried the beta. No problem connecting. Started out with short pitches and got about a 4 sec shot delay, not much more than my core I5 PC. Moved to full PW shots and shot delay increased to about 7secs. Ball flight display a little choppy but not too bad. After about a dozen shots I experienced a couple of no-reads, and a few shots later stopped the software after 3 no-reads in a row on decent strikes.

Would the beta software contribute to misreads? I hadn't been experiencing them with my PC recently (although I did have a serious case of the misreads even with my PC not long ago. I did a bottom button reset and sInce then only a couple mis-reads in the last several hundred shots).

      Android 4.4.4
      Cyanogen OS v11
      ARMv7 rev.1 CPU

What is the model of your phone/device? And it's a little hard to tell, do you know which processor you have exactly?

My phone is a One Plus - One. The processor is a Qualcom Snapdragon.

No smart TV. As building an enclosure and screen with a projector. Any other ways to send the Android image to a regular TV?

I've never used Chromecast but I'd imagine that would be fine, an android TV box/stick would also do the trick for screen mirror wirelessly.

Pretty sure you get an Android to HDMI cable too, never used one so can't say how they work.

As long as you have a chromecast connected to any TV/Projector that has HDMI you can mirror your screen from (Chromecast(old app)) (replaced by Google Home(new app)). Go into Home app and click on top left icon to pull out slider from left and you should see an option to Cast screen/audio.

Has anyone tried to install Skytrak app on a chromebook that has android apps enabled?

I tried the SkyTrak app on my Asus R11 chromebook. Unfortunately it was not able to connect to the unit -- direct, network, or USB mode.

I don't suppose we can connect via USB to an Android device...?

Well tried it out last night. Works pretty good. The chromecast only works in network mode, and not in direct mode. Never noticed too much of a delay either maybe 4 seconds. Quite impressed.
Just fyi, if you accidentally put in the wrong wifi password, or anything wrong when trying to connect to network mode for first time. Re-start app and try again. Only way I could get it to work.
But once in network mode there were zero problems.

Great stuff! Looks like we can officially roll out Android with this next release.

Is there going to be a 2.6.1 version or will it become routine with the next version?

After release, it will stay up-to-date with both PC and iOS.

Has anyone tried sideloading to an amazon fire tv or shield tv?

I have the NVIDIA Shield once I get my ST back from service i'll run it and post results. It has an HDMI mini out that works great with my Glyphs and DJI Mavic so it should be perfect.
Shields are available on eBay for 150 - 175.
                  Denny.

Just installed this on my Nexus 6P and it was working great and I am excited to take it to the range vs having to have it attached to my Surface Pro 3. One thing though after about 15 shots I get an error message that it can't read the device memory. Closing the app and launching it again resolves it again for a little while. Other than that looks promising. Only played with it for 15 minutes, will report back if I encounter any other issues.

Forgot to mention the shot delay was about 7 seconds and I get about 3 seconds on my PC. I really don't even mind the extra delay for the convenience of being able to use it on my phone.

                    At home,

Ran fine on my Galaxy S6. Takes about 5 seconds to register.
Also ran Ok on my Galaxy Tab Pro which is a Quad core, not Octocore. Takes about 8 seconds to register. (same as on my laptop which is an old Pentium).
My Galaxy Note tablet (5010) would not connect.

I took my Skytrak to the driving range and I was able to connect with Direct Mode but after a shot, the laser would go off but no shot would be displayed on the screen. I tried with both the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy Tab Pro.

I put my phone in hot spot mode and tried that and had the same issue. Eventually after shutting off and turning on the Skytrak multiple times, it finally started working. ONce is started working, it kept working.

I did not test direct mode at home so I can not say whether that issue was Direct mode or location.

That's really weird. I wonder if it could have been something at the range environment, like something in the background? But odd that it just started working...

SkyTrak_Seth I am unable to install the app. I'm using a Galaxy Tab A, have the setting for Unknown sources set correctly, have restarted the device a few times, and have re-downloaded the app twice. Basically it fails when it says its going to install the app (past the point where I've successfully downloaded the app and confirmed I want to install from an unknown source), so no issue with unknown sources settings or anything else I can see - seems to be the .apk files itself. I've also never had issues downloading/installing .apk files on this tablet before. Not sure whats up.

I see several were able to get it up and running. Has there been any changes/updates to the beta app since it was first released or recently that might explain this?

Nope, haven't changed anything. Let me go back and make sure the link is still good.

I stumbled on a fix - for anyone with a similar issue, turned out to be that the app wouldn't install with a micro sd in the device. I took it out and repeated the process and the app installed. I'll do some testing today to kind of assess performance.
                  Working...
