  • Warning - Buying Skytrak in UK - Dodgy Retailer

    Hi,
Looking into buying a L.M and considering Skytrak in the UK. I was doing some searches for best deals and came across what I thought was a great deal. £1495 in delivery which I thought was too good and set the alarm bells ringing. I also noticed a listing on ebay which linked to the same retailer - golfspin.co.uk.

I did some digging and found that this company is linked to several other companies owned by Marc Cottrell, who was (not sure if he still is) the professional at Painswick Golf Club. Google searches show up lots of threads on respected uk golf forums which detail lots of issues of people paying for goods and never receiving them. Rather than go into too much detail here please do a search for Golf GPS Marc Cottrell and you will find loads of information out there.

I always think that if a deal sounds to good to be true, it is probably a scam hence the research.

    Hope this helps someone.
    Cheers
    Steve

    Hi All,

Just confirming this. I attempted to purchase from these scammers. Went in with eyes open and paid on Credit Card (declined the offer of a direct bank transfer to save £10). Ignored all emails until i requested cancellation. 5 - 15 working days for dispatched, 5 - 10 working days for refund, 5 days for cleared funds etc etc etc. All just a big scam to hold on to cash. 1 month it took to turn around a purchase and cancellation and the money hasn't cleared yet!

I saw that deal too but queried it with Skytrak UK. They said they weren't a authorized reseller and that I should stay well clear, so I bought directly from Skytrak. IIRC they said they source the kit from outside the UK and there could be warranty issues should the device need repairing.

steer well clear of this shyster, when the Skytrak was released in the UK this company had an offer selling the Skytrak for £1495 with a free case and a £30 off voucher, which i duly ordered. there were stock availability issues at the time so i didn't bother chasing the order until i knew that Skygolf UK had received stock, at which point i chased Golfspin for an update on my order and they explained that no stock was available, although i'd already confirmed with Skygolf that they had free stock for their UK re-sellers. GolfSpin did eventually refund me and i bought a Skytrak and collected it the same day from SkyGolf in Oxfordshire. having since read reviews about this company its clear they buy grey stock from overseas (although they told me they were authorized UK re-seller selling UK stock). wouldn't touch them with a barge pole.
