  • wifi extender

    Guys,

I have experienced 11-13 second delays since I set my unit up. I have my setup in my basement just below my great room which has the wireless router but seem to experience long shot delays while other wireless wifi devices work fine. I purchased a wifi extender, any tips on how to set it up, is it just plug and play? Also has anyone else experienced significant shot delay decreases going this route?

    Thank you,
    Bryan

I added an extender, it was really easy to set up. For my installation, there was very little setup, just plugged in and followed instructions to connect to your network. My shot delay is average 3 seconds but I also built a PC which I think helped as much or more than the wifi extender. What kind of machine are you running on?

I am running my skytrak on a refurbished corporate laptop windows based PC. I am beginning to wonder if that is the problem, will know better once I hook up the wifi extender tonight.

I was 12 seconds on a high end gaming laptop. 2-3 seconds on iPad. Added wifi extender and now 2-3 seconds on laptop as well. Make sure you are on the lower frequency 2.4 GHz?

How can I ensure that I am running on 2.4GHz as you mentioned?

        Thanks.

My experience was night and day from old/junky pc to "gaming" pc. It was about $620 to build and well worth it. Prior to, playing sim golf was ~5FPS and the lowest resolution possible, now I'm at ~90FPS with max resolution. Lag was long, regularly 10 or so seconds in SIM (better in the SkyTrak App) but would go as long as 20 sometimes. It's about 3 or less everywhere now.

Powerlan Adaper solved my problem and my Golf Hall is 50 meters away from my flat. No wifi leaks at all.

        - LAN Network connection in the flat to the Powerlan adapter
        - Powerlan Adapter in the hall connected vial Cbale to WIFI Router

        works with no problems

        Price 40- 45$

I recently purchased "Google Wifi" which uses a "mesh" style network instead of extenders. I don't work for google but can honestly say it is the best decision I have ever made as far as getting whole house wifi working. Other companies do this as well but as far as simplicity to setup and ease of use, google wifi seems to be the best option. I have gone through many options and my wifi has never been faster and as consistently strong.

Justin General does the Google mesh wifi system work well with skytrak which is limited to using only the 2.4ghz wifi band. In reading up on the Google mesh it appears it switches automatically between 2.4 and5ghz bands depending on which is strongest signal and there is no way to lock into the 2.4ghz band for any particular device. Maybe I misread the information, as the system does get good reviews but that may be problematic for skytrak maybe. Thanks for your reply

Sorry for the delay but I finally had some time to get back on the skytrak and test the network connection. I have tested 2 days for a couple hours each day using Google Wifi with no connection issues at all yet. In my tests so far, the computer was about 15 feet from the nearest physical wifi node, and the skytrak was another 15 feet away from the computer (30ft from wifi node).

I am going to continue to use network mode here. If I notice anything unusual I will post.

                  Just a follow up...

I have been sticking with the Google Wifi network connection and have had no issues with stability or shot delay compared to using the direct usb connection. Just for fun I also tested the Android demo on my Galaxy S7 Edge phone and that also worked well. However, with the phone, the shot delay was noticeably longer than using my laptop. I only tested the phone remotely and not direct since I don't have a micro usb to micro usb cable.

With that said, I think the CPU power is the main reason for shot delay and not wifi vs usb connection. (Assuming your wifi connection is strong enough).
