  • Spin rate with fat shot

Hi guys. I have been using my skytrak for quite awhile and I know that hitting fat shot will cause the spin rate to be much lower. I'm just wondering does anybody knows why this would happen? Since a fat shot usually ended up hitting the bottom of the golf club which should even increase the spin rate instead of reducing.

As we all know. There's no such thing of compressing the ball to the ground. ( it takes off when it hits the club). https://www.youtube.com/shared?ci=YGaUaQcLv1k

so why would this happen and does it happen on device like gc2 or trackman?

A fat shot generally hits the upper part of the golf club, does it not?

yes. plus grass, (or anything) between ball and club = less friction = less spin.

Plus it will likely see less grooves if it runs off the top of the club.

Also, fat and thin shots will lower spin rates generally, not increase them.

Fat shots hit the higher part of the face, not the lower

Unless you're suing a mat that is very forgiving and the club is bouncing off of it and you're bottom-grooving it

Generally fat shots hit the face above CG, so higher launch lower spin. Plus the clubhead speed is dramatically reduced and this is a significant factor in producing spin.

        Ya. Thx for the information

when I think about it, it makes sense that it's hitting on top of the club rather than bottom

its has to be striking way behind the ball in order to bounce up and catch the bottom groove
