  • Mobile hotspot

Hi all, long time first time.

My Skytrak arrived yesterday and I'm liking what I see so far.

I bought it with the Play and Improve package. I already have a PC able to run TGC and/or JNPG but my garage is not ready yet, and with the beggining of the UK golf season just around the corner it will be on hold until the end of this season. My Skytrak will only be used at the range until then.

I'm using an iPad Air 2 which is Wifi only and connects to my Skytrak in Direct Mode.

My question is can I connect both my iPad and ST to my iPhone 7, in mobile hotspot mode, and then use it to play WGT over 4g?

    Thanks.

I was never able to make this happen with my iphone 6. I haven't tried it in a long time though. I think others were able to make it work using android phones as hotspots. I'm interested to see if others have been able to make this happen with their iphones.

Yes, I have been able to use my iPhone's mobile hotspot before with both the SkyTrak app and TGC.

I managed to get it working, I had to shorten the name of my iPhone (Settings > General > About) so that it was below 11 characters as recommened by Skytrak. Now I can have my ST and iPad connected using 4g data for internet. Means I can use WGT at the range, whilst not great, it's still adds another option to my practice.

This is interesting. Like Nicknku, was under impression it only works on hot spots from Android phones not iPhones. Will give it a try again sometime...

I haven't hit any balls while it's been connected yet, so I don't know if there is any extra delay in shot reading, but I wouldn't expect so.

Short answer is yes, it will work, but it could get a little wonky. On an iphone, if a connection drops it does not automatically reconnect unless you take the iphone out of sleep mode.. So, if your pc or ipad do disconnect from wifi you have to wake up your phone to reconnect. I use mine with a dedicated hotspot so I don't have that issue but I have on occasion used my phone as a hotspot and have encountered the reconnection issue. The only time I find it a pain to be on mobile internet is when steam wants to update JNPG. It can take a long time even at 4G.
