  • New Skytrak owner, can't get network mode to work

Just received my Skytrak. Just using the Skytrak App on my IPad Pro. Went through the setup and the first time through connected in direct mode and then network mode fine and everything worked fine the first session. Turned the unit off and charged it up again. Next session I could not get it to work in network mode or direct. Everything looked fine on the wifi settings on the IPad. The Skytrak app just kept looking for a connection. Did a reset on the Skytrak and logged out of the app and started over and tried again and it still would not connect. Shut down and restarted the IPad, reset and turned off the Skytrak. Started over again and the finally got the direct mode to work but the network mode will still not work. The Skytrak finds my network and the password does not have any special characters (it did work on initial setup but not since). It just shows that it is looking for a connection. Cannot go back to direct mode either at that point. Have to reboot the IPad, reset the Skytrak to get direct mode to work again. When it did work it seemed to be accurate, hate to have to send it back for a refund but only being able to use it in direct mode is not going to cut it.
    any help would be appreciated.

Once the wifi is setup, you shouldn't have to touch it again. Does your modem broadcast 2.4G and 5G on the same SSID? If so, separate them.

Thanks, I'll look into that. The only concern I have is the the whole house runs on WiFi, security, climate control, audio, video, lighting, etc., yet the Skytrak won't. I'll have to see if that is the problem and then if it will effect the performance of everything else if changed.

My guess is that you have 2 bands, as suggested above. Here's how to solve for that...

        1) Reset SkyTrak (to revert back to direct mode just in case)
        2) Connect to app in direct mode
        3) Connect to your 2.4GHz network in network mode - don't worry about the app, just make sure that the middle light on the unit turns solid yellow.
        4) Go to your iPad Wi-Fi settings and 'Forget" the 5GHz network.
        5) Connect to the 2.4GHz network
        6) Return to the SkyTrak app and it should connect

I'm not positive, but it seems to be worse recently where the iPad is jumping around from network to network in the background. Maybe an iOS update, but i the iPad can't stay connected to the same network as you have programmed to your unit, then it will never connect in the app.

Thanks for the help. I did split the 2.4 and 5.0 networks and connected to the Skytrak on 2.4 and it worked. Still drops it occasionally and when I check on the iPad it is still on the 2.4. What is the best way to reconnect when Skytrak quits responding?

Did you forget the 5GHz? If so, this might be what another user was mentioning as well. Do you have any way to test on a PC with direct connection? Trying to figure out if it's the unit or the iPad Wi-Fi causing the problem.

The 5 ghz is now a separate network. I did not forget it because we use it now as the main network for all of the home automation. The 2.4 will not cover the whole house.
Set up the 2.4 just to use with Skytrak. When Skytrak drops the connection the 2.4 network is still showing up as active on my iPad.

Maybe just try forgetting it and see if the problem continues. (if you forget it, you just wipe the password so the iPad can't automatically connect to it in the background - you can just retype the password after performing this test)
            Working...
