  • SkyTrak Connection Drop

Hi all, I'm trying to gather more detailed information on the connection drop some users are reporting in order to provide to the hardware team. If you can answer the following questions:

    1) Are you PC or iPad?
    2) USB, Direct Mode, or Network Mode?
    3) Do you see connection drops in SkyTrak app, sim partner, or both?
    4) Are you updated to v2.5.4 software and 1.55 firmware?
    5) Have you done a hard reset of your SkyTrak unit since the update?
    6) If your battery is fully charged, do you still experience the drop?
    7) If the connection drops while using network mode, have you forgotten all other networks so the device doesn't switch in the background?
    8) Are you using a protective case? If so, which one?

I'm most recently interested in #6.

My Skytrak in recent weeks has become totally unusable with TGC. It drops every 1-2 shots.. I'm going CRAZY trying to play even 1 hole of golf without a disconnect... It's taking multiple attempts to reconnect after a drop with TGC's interface... Suggestions?

        1) Are you PC or iPad? PC
        2) USB, Direct Mode, or Network Mode? NETWORK
        3) Do you see connection drops in SkyTrak app, sim partner, or both? NEITHER, IT JUST RANDOMLY STOPS WORKING WITHOUT NOTICE
        4) Are you updated to v2.5.4 software and 1.55 firmware? YES
        5) Have you done a hard reset of your SkyTrak unit since the update? YES
        6) If your battery is fully charged, do you still experience the drop? YES
        7) If the connection drops while using network mode, have you forgotten all other networks so the device doesn't switch in the background? YES
        8) Are you using a protective case? If so, which one? YES, OEM

Sounds like an issue with your network. Switch it to usb connection and see if this issue persists. That will help you narrow down where the problem is. I use network 99% of the time, but their the rare occasions where it just wont work and what u describe, happens. Switching to usb fixes it immediately.

            1. Ipad, now brand new ipad pro (previously ipad gen4)
            2. Network, though I haven't tried direct since getting new ipad pro
            3. I only have skytrak
            4. Yes, I am updated
            5. No, I have not hard resetted the skytrak
            6. Not sure how full the battery was, I know it wasn't fully charged
            7. I am not sure, if this wasn't part of the set up process then likely not.
            8. I am only using the plastic case from skytrak, but have an "Armour" on the way

So here are my two issues:
The first is NOT being able to select the skytrak device in ios settings-wifi. I have no idea, but this is what happens most to me. I open the app, turn on the skytrak, and try to connect. When I go to the ios settings/wifi, the SKYTRAKxyz does not show up. The most recent time, this past week, I logged out of the app and then back in and I was magically in network mode automatically. That said, getting the intial connection is sometimes amazingly frustrating.

The other day, the first day using the new ipad, after all the connectivity issues magically resolved themselves I proceeded out to the garage to hit. I warmed up hitting SW shots and then changed to another club. It was after switching clubs in the device that I was suddenly losing connection. I have NEVER had more than one missed shot in a session and all of a sudden I had probably 4-5 in a row. Next think I see is the lights red-yellow-green top to bottom. I tried getting out of the app and back in, connected, hit 1-2 shots and then back again.

I often am only able to time good hitting sessions when the wife takes the kiddo to gymnastics, swim lessons, etc. Needless to say, it is exceptionally frustrating to spend 30-45 min of my hour window just trying to get things to work.

I just wanted to post in an update as I just came in from the garage. I started the app and turned on the ST. I ended up having to log out of the app and log back in for it to connect in network mode. I hit one shot which registered normally. I hit the second shot and it froze again. Red, Yellow, Green top to bottom. Over 30-60 sec the lights went to red, green, green and then green, green, green. Hit third shot and repeat the above. No shot tracked, just red, yellow, green to red, green, green and then back to all green.

I backed out of the skytrak and connected in direct mode and had no issues. 1-2 no reads which is kind of uncommon for me, but no issues with what appears to be dropping the network signal???

Could this because windows 10 issue? My old laptop works fine in network mode (windows 8) my new computer drops the connection often. The computer is using WiFi with a strong signal. My next option will be to hard wire the computer to the router. I'm glad it's summer and I don't use the sim very hard.

Hmmm... That's interesting. I'm on Windows 7 Pro and still have random disconnects. I think it goes beyond the operating system, but that's good feedback to have. Hopefully Seth and the team at SkyTrak are working to resolve these issues.
          Working...
