  • Router Set for Skytrak?

I need some advice on my router set up that I am running for the ST. I have issues connecting and staying connected within TGC. I will be playing and see shots register at a fast rate and then slow down on at times. I check to see if anyone in the house is using the internet when it slows down but they are not streaming or searching the internet.

I think that I need to change to a different router I currently run a Netgear 6100AC in my shop where the sim is located. Here is a description of what my configuration looks like:

I have a Router in my house, I have my ethernet (hard wired to my shop) in a port on the back of this router.
Once in the shop I hit a ethernet switch, one line goes directly into my PC, one line goes into the WAN port on my Netgear 6100 AC router in my shop(this router is set up as an Access Point)
I have a 2.4 Ghz wifi adapter in a usb port on the PC

I am using the ethernet (hard wired) for my TGC software, I am connecting my ST in Network Mode or WiFi using the usb wifi adapter to 2.4Ghz.

In my internet network settings I have only my shop wifi recognized all other noticed wifi signals have have set to "forget"

Does anyone have any insight as to what my issues may be. I think I need to try a different Router in the shop, I have looked at the list of routers that SkyGolf says will work but the list seems a bit outdated, or am I wrong here.

This Netgear 6100AC router is brand new, but I read on this forum that ST doesn't recognize "n" series routers.

Any advice on which router works well without breaking the bank?

I just want to be able to go to the shop and play without having to mess around getting things to connect all of the time or be dropped during a round.

Thanks in advance for any insight!

Are you sure it's a Netgear 6100AC... maybe that's not the model number because when I searched for it, I got nothing.

Just something you might want to try as far as the access point thing is concerned... my set up is very much alike, but I named my access point a different SSID than my first router so that the Skytrak wouldn't bounce back and forth between routers... it will just stay on the access point, which is good because it's much closer to my sim set up in my shop.

Some of the other techies on here can probably offer way better help if that's not the solution you're looking for. Good luck!

Sorry it is a Netgear 1200AC 6100. I do have a my SSID's named different, thank you for the info. It is nice to hear that you have a similar setup. I thought I was trying to reinvent the wheel with my setup.

The (AC1200) that I believe you are talking about should be fine, since it is setup as an access point and it isn't a n only router.

Allen2be makes a good point though. Usually access points are the way to go to ensure the most throughput and a single (to devices) seamless network. In this case though that could be hurting you.

So are you saying I should not have my router set as an access point and set it as a second router? I remember reading that setting a second router as an access point can create issues, but as you stated it makes a seamless network that is why I set it as an access point.

I have my IT guy from work coming out this weekend to give me a hand as I am not a tech guru. I did purchase the Netgear Nighthawk AC1900 R7000 this evening and will install it tomorrow, if nothing else it should stream TGC faster.

I was just agreeing with allen2be about the SSID being an issue with regards to the skytrak. Generally speaking setting up a second (usually older) router as an access point (direct wiring the two routers) is the best method for extending your wi-fi network while maintaining throughput. If you have a guy from work you should be able to hammer it out pretty quickly trying a couple of things.
