  • SkyTrak v2.6.2 for iPad - Issues, My Workaround, and Questions

Hi everyone! This is my first post. I purchased SkyTrak about a year ago, and have used it pretty much every day. What a great training tool! I use it for all shots except putting - driver, long irons, short irons, pitching, and chipping. It gives me great insight and control of my game. Together with the Net Return Pro net and mat, this $3000 is the best golf investment I have made for a long time! I feel very grateful to this great product.

My set up is to use iPad and "direct mode" to connect to SkyTrak. It had worked smoothly most of the time before v2.6.2. But after I updated to v2.6.2 a few days ago, I started to see issues. The following are the two issues I saw (still see as of this morning May 23 2017), and the workarounds:

    1. The App Upgrade does not work.

Issue: after upgraded to V2.6.2, the app does not connect to SkyTrak. In the home page, the app does not make attempt to connect.
Work-around: delete the app from iPad, and re-download the app from App Store. Note that after you install SkyTrak app to iPad, the iPad must stay connected to internet, NOT to SkyTrak unit, when you perform the initial login. After that, you can use WiFi in iPad to connect to SkyTrak unit and login to SkyTrak app again. The app will attempt to connect.

    2. The App crashes / exits on its own after about 1-2 hour of continuous use.

Issue: after I use SkyTrak without stop for 1 to 2 hours, the app exits on its own without any warning. It is not a flake, and I have consistently seen this.
Work-around: Same as in issue 1 - you need to delete and app from iPad, re-download from App Store, and re-install. It solves the problem until you use it for another 1-2 hours - at that time you need to repeat the fix.

Hope these tricks help other people too.

    Questions:
    1. Have anyone else seen the second issue?
    2. To SkyTrak: when will you release fixes to these issues?
    3. To SkyTrak: can you please use more care in the testing of your future software updates. The v2.6.2 update experience has been interrupting and disappointing (my honest opinion - sorry).

    Hey Ryan,

Glad to hear you're enjoying your SkyTrak!

On the first issue, there have been several threads already about the v2.6.2 upgrade not working. You are correct on the workaround - a fresh install solves the problem. however, we were able to get a quick fix in place and was made available as v2.6.3 in the App Store yesterday. Nothing different except that the upgrade issue is fixed. (note - app still does display v2.6.2 in the about screen)

On the second, what model iPad are you using? That sounds like a memory issue. Why do you need to reinstall the app after it crashes? If you just open it up again, does it work for another 1-2 hours? Also, when you delete it, are you losing your local database or has that data been synced to SkyGolf 360 already? Just trying to narrow down if this is a memory or a storage problem.

    1. Nope
    2. Yesterday
    3. We always take great care in testing our software. Sometimes you just run into issues like that. It was not an across-the-board problem and we were able to turnaround a quick fix for it. Very sorry for the interruption. We've never had an issue like that, but we also won't have it again.

Seth, I appreciate your reply. What I am getting from SkyTrak is as good as a "direct phone support", only better, because I directly talk to someone who has the best knowledge of the product.

I will install the new upgrade tonight and try again.

      For the 2nd issue:

      - I use iPad Pro.I think it is the latest iOS version, but I will check tonight and get back to you in this post.
      - When I saw it crash the first time, I opened it again, but the application did not stay on. I cleared the cache, opened it, and it closed down immediately. The only way I made it work was to re-install.
      - When I saw it crash, I checked the iPad disk space. There was still about 2GB left - so it was not a disk space issue.
      - I have a Game Improvement account but I have not used SkyGolf 360 for a long time. I just logged on to my SkyGolf 360 site a few moments ago, and did not find any data after Dec 24 of last year. It is not a concern for me though because I don't use SkyGolf 360 regularly.

      Thanks.

Actually since you already deleted and installed from scratch, you won't notice any difference. You are good to go regardless now.

Ok, thanks for all that information. Here's what would really help...if your app crashes, open it back up and go directly to your Profile in the upper right of the dashboard. Choose ABOUT and then go to Send Logs in the lower right > Send Previous Log. Make sure to type something in the subject or body that describes what the problem is (ie 'app crashed after 1 hour). That will let us see possibly what happened. I'll go ahead and open an app here right now and hit on it periodically over the next hour or so to see if I can reproduce it.

The exact same thing has happened to me the past two mornings (crashes out of app after about 90 minutes of use). I hardly have anything on my iPad, so I don't think it is a memory issue.

I've had mine running for almost 3 hours since I started it earlier this morning, walking in and hitting a shot every once in awhile. No crashes. This is on iPad Air 1. I'm curious if it could be due to number of shots. How many shots are you guys hitting and what kind and how many activities are you doing (ie practice, bag mapping, challenges, etc). Any clue as to any action that makes it crash? Again, be sure to send the previous log if you experience a crash.

I used SkyTrak for over 2 hours tonight , hit about 200 shots, and it did not crash. All worked well. I hope the issue goes away for good.

Seth, for the first time ever this evening my ST app on my ipad Air (purchased July 2015) just disconnects and disappears as it tries to register a shot I just hit--that is, the iPad screen returns to the page with the ST icon. It connects again but same thing keeps happening as soon as I take a shot.. It is not a memory issue --I have 97G left in memory. I also deleted my ST app and reloaded it tonight after this happened 4 times and it continued to happen. I turned the ST and iPad off and tried hitting a few pitches later and it wasn't happening but I only had time to take a few shots.

Another issue--I seem to have to reload my user name and pw every time I load the app up to use the range--I do not recall having this issue in the past.

Also, one last point--my ST was purchased back in 2015 and the camera lens/screen did not have a protective screen saver--I note that mhunt received one in the mail. Is this something that the early adopters can get to protect the screen?.

                Thanks for your help.

You are on the latest version in the App Store? I've not heard of anything like that. Sounds like you rebooted the iPad and it started working? Can you confirm it still works? Also make sure you are on the latest iOS version.

Are you checking the 'Remember Me' box when you log in? If you do that, you should not need to enter your credentials anymore to log in.

And yep, just contact support and they'll send you out a screen protector. If you need, tell them I said for them to

                      Same here, latest version.

IPAD Pro, after about an hour the app just closes. Only way around it is to delete and reinstall the app.

So what happens after it closes? You try to open it back up and it immediately crashes?

Crashed again tonight. Did not get a chance to send log report. Reinstalled and it is back to work. I will monitor this and hopefully provide more details if it happens again.

Seth Thanks for your response. I deleted the app again and reloaded again and my ST/iPad setup is once again working fine. As far as remembering my credentials I have checked "remember me" but sometimes it does remember me and sometimes it does not. When I switch from direct mode to network is that the problem--meaning when you do that is it necessary to put your credentials back in at startup?

I have one other question-I use powerline repeaters throughout my house and back yard. It seems that when using network mode the ST finds the network no matter where I am on my house as does my iPad, however, they can't find each other unless I bring both into my office which is the location of my router. Interestingly once I do that I can go anywhere in my house or backyard and the connection holds fine. Do you have any idea why this may be happening?

Thanks for the screen protector and for your unwavering customer support. Appreciated.

No worries! There should not be any relation between network mode and direct mode affecting the log in credentials. The exception being that if the unit is in network mode, then your iPad is likely connected to the internet and you would then be able to validate your creds against 360 online anyway. Maybe if it fails to log you in whilst not be connected to the internet, could you send me the log from that? (Profile > ABOUT > Send Logs > Send Current Log)

That is really strange about the repeater. I do know that some customers have had luck with repeaters, and some not. Very interesting about connecting while in the same room as the router though!
