  • Skytrak and short chips going left?

Are other people experiencing an issue when hitting short chips with high launch angles going left even if the ball seems to be hit straigt? I see it all the time with these types of shots.

    I see the same too.

Relatively new SkyTrak user here and haven't posted much here, but was getting ready to ask this same question. This happens frequently to me and was wondering if it was just me.

        What software are you using?

I am using TGC and definitely seeing it there, but pretty sure I also have the problem in SkyTrak app as well. Will confirm this when I can.

I don't think I have seen this issue but the roll number display for chipping is unreasonably low for me. For a 5-yard-carry chipping with 54 degree sand wedge, the displayed total distance is 5-6, meaning 0-1 yards of rolling. In reality I know the actual rolling will be 1/2 to 1 times of the carry distance. I guess the calculation of chipping shot may need some improvements/ adjustments.

Let's make sure to clarify the app we are using. Technically, TGC should output (roughly) the same thing as SkyTrak since we deliver the same raw launch data to them as we use to feed our flight model. I'll go hit some short chip in the SkyTrak range and see if I notice anything.

This is 7 chip shots that are right on the lower threshold of what SkyTrak is able to capture. I hit a few just left, just right and down the middle - app read all of them correctly.

Sorry to distract the topic. 30 degree launch angle...Is it a 56 degree wedge? The 1 yard rolling seems too low - I would expect a 4-7 rolling instead. Would you agree?

It was a bit thinned 58. I would expect the 4-7 rollout on the green, but not hitting onto the range. We'll be adding something for chipping practice to account for this.

thanks. No one will hit a chip shot to the fairway right actually when I practice chip shots, I hit to the green, not range ( I just select a big green and a 30-yard target to achieve this) What you said confirms my suspicion that the rolling calculation is for full shots, not chipping.

Another question: what's the low threshold for shot distance? I have practiced many 5 yards shots recently . Are the numbers accurate for these extremely short shots? ( I realize that I can test myself but I have not yet)

Basically, if it picks up the shot then the numbers will be accurate. 5 or 6 yards though is the shortest shot we are able to capture currently without putting the unit in putt/chip mode. That feature will be going into the SkyTrak app to allow for practicing those shorter chips (and the ability to move the green closer)

I can do some additional testing tonight, but I think it happens when the launch angle is higher.

OP, yes, on a golf simulator (PG) I've noticed that using my 60 degree wedge I sometimes get shots that seem to go inaccurately far left or right. So if not necessary I try to avoid going higher than 56 degree wedge, because I don't see the same problem in lower launch angle shots.

I've had the same problem but to the right instead of the left. It's been an ongoing issue for a couple months.
