  • Putting in TGC - realistic?

Just wondering - how realistic is putting or golf in general, in TGC? I haven't played it (use JPNG currently) but looking at the tournament results and see a lot of players with a ridiculously low number of putts (12, 13, 14) for a round. In real life golf if you could putt that well or hit it that close for a gimme you'd be better than any tour pro. Is TGC just easy compared to real golf or does the sim tour play with a massive gimme range, or conversely am I just misunderstanding the scorecards that get posted on the sim tour site?

I think it doesn't count gimmes, and most people use some sort of gimme in the game, since short puts are less realistic.

Correct. Does anyone know if this is supposed to be getting fixed?

Its subjective.. I think its very realistic. The tour uses 6 ft gimmies, but I personally use 3 ft gimmies. There is currently a 0 HA patch that most use, so putts always go straight, so thats the kicker in exactly how realistic it is. The R-Motion is in beginning stages of integration with the skytrak, which should solve this issue. Not sure how that will affect other systems however.

Oh, thank you. That makes more sense from a putting perspective. If you hole a putt it counts it, if it gets inside your gimmie range it will not, so assuming up to 18 putts more (if you didn't make anything and all were gimmies) would be added to your putt count IRL. Strange that it tracks that way but helpful to know.

        It's terrible and hokey.

There is no way to simulate a green. TGC does a good job but sand, rough and putting are 3 things that sim golf may never be able to overcome in my opinion.

I agree. When I first started playing TGC, I would club up whenever I was in a fairway bunker or rough, and would end up flying the green. I found that if I took my normal club for that distance and hit it well, I lost very little yardage.

I also noticed that slope on a ball's lie has very little effect on the ball flight as well.

Yeah slope/lie would be the 4th thing. Sim golf is still valuable though. Muscle memory, swing speeds and accuracy all improve with practice.

Rough and sand are tough to duplicate because of the variance in lies. Putting really depends on your set up and what sim you have. GSA has great putting. It has really helped me with my weight.
        Working...
