  • Align ball to the camera lens for accurate spin reading

I read that you need to draw a solid line on the golf ball and point the line directly to the SkyTrak camera in order to get accurate spin reading. This is what I do: I draw a solid red line on the ball and point the line to the SkyTrak side. See the picture. Is this good enough? Any other ideas to share?

I use a Callaway Red and White Truvis. Always a red line facing the unit. I get maybe 1 or 2 no reads per 18 holes.

Are you hitting into an impact screen, if so you may start seeing it rub off and leave marks. I usually only align the logo to the ST on driver and wedges. Just for "potential" increased accuracy.

Just to mention this, I use normal balls, with no extra markings, and never worry about which way the marks are facing on my ST. I might get a missed read about once a round or so.

What I read from somewhere is that the spin rate may be inaccurate even if the shot is picked up, and pointing a solid line on the ball can help the spin rate accuracy.

Can anyone provide experience in the accuracy/inaccuracy of spin on ST with placing ball markings towards the device?

No, it just works and is very accurate in my experience. The only thing it didn't like were yellow truvis balls which failed to read completely for me...

the yellow / black soccer ball looking truvis did not register a single shot for me... the white / red were as per normal. no issues at all

I also had no luck with the Yellow/Black Truvis. Red/White worked but after a while started leaving little pink marks on my impact screen so stopped using them. After 6 months of daily use, we have all become too lazy to do anything special with the ball. We dont see any noticable difference in numbers or performance as long as the balls are clean. We are using plain white chrome softs now with no marks. Just put it on the dot and swing away.

Hope you haven't gone through too many red markers because the cameras/lighting are infrared, so anything red in the image will essentially disappear The small side logo like ProV1 works just fine. If you want to draw a line, the best way to do it would be to use a putting alignment clip and a black marker. The line becomes more important when using outdoors as dimples and other marking tend to 'wash out' with bright sunlight.
