  • Flop Shots and Wedge readings

Anyone know the best way to get flop and wedge shots to register. I have been practicing with wedges and i get a ton of no reads. I have been using 54 and 60 degree wedges. What is the max launch angle the skytrak can detect? Max i have been able to get is 51 degrees.

Secondly, does anyone have a good recommendations of how to protect the ceiling or etc from high shots. I currently use a Net return and i can hit shots over the net return and usually hits the ceiling behind the net. I am not sure what type of net, etc i can put on the ceiling on an angle or what not to make the balls go behind the net return and not damage my ceiling or scare the crap out of my wife when i flop one over. Thanks

Typically I find that putting the ball in front of the laser dot seems to help it read super high shots. I have been running through a bunch of wedge ladder drills on my own and this seems to help me.

Not sure how to help you with the flop shots hitting the ceiling though. I avoid flop shots like the plauge, and I have just been practicing chip/pitch shots up to 50-60 yards so i don't hit one super hard over the net.

Good advice above about moving the ball forward if you are having trouble getting high shots to register. I personally have never had an issue getting these shots to register but understand some have. I don't hit many flops, but If I really have to get one up I will move my net return closer to me to avoid a ball going over and damaging sheetrock.

        Stiggity,

attached are some pics of my setup with net return. Simple frame of pvc with netting strung fairly loosely around same. Since I installed about a year ago no issues with hitting high balls into my plastered ceiling. I hit from about 9' away from bottom of net. If u hit really high shots moving a foot or two closer would solve it with this kind of barrier. Hope this helps a little.

Perhaps try a softer foam practice ball for shots which are likely to hit the ceiling?

Once you start getting over 50 degrees, it's really hit or miss. Same with anything under 7 or 8 yards. Those are just the limitations of the technology/hardware. Eventually, I will get the same smart putting mode in our app that we have in TGC that will allow for those shorter flop shots, but I doubt it will help the max launch angle threshold. I feel your pain on the ceiling...you should see ours after testing those max launch angles

Local rule in my simulator - if someone hits the ceiling, we take a picture of them pointing at the dent. I have quite a collection!

Nothing that a little spackle can't fix...so many dents in my ceiling from this over the years!
