Need help with Skytrak alignment issue

I received my Skytrak last week and I have a lot of fun with it. The unit never missed a shot, but I noticed that almost all ballflights were right of center. Even if I purposely hit a ball 45 cm left of my centerline cord, the app will report that the horizontal angle is zero degree. If I hit a ball on the centerline the app will report the horizontal angle is 6 degrees to the right. It looks like the app is reporting all shots approximately 6 degrees more to the right than it should be.

My setup: large heavy stancemat, 2 Fiberbuilt panels, 2017 Ipad with 2.6.5 Skytrak app, Skytrak metal case, new white Bridgestone E6 balls, everything under carport (no direct sunlight and no white walls).

Alignment: I use a wooden board with parallel lines on it. I replace the Fiberbuilt panels with the wooden board and put it against the stancemat and align the Skytrak unit so both laserdots are aligned with a line on the board. Then I replace the board with the Fiberlbuilt panels. On my impact net I have a target cord with a small weight on it so it will hang vertical. I align the cord with a straight wooden beam along the stancemat to the impact net and take the offset of half the Fiberbuilt panels. That way the middle of the Fiberbuilt panels is aligned with the cord in front of the impact net. The laserdot is in the middle of the Fiberbuilt panels when hitting balls.

Is there something wrong with my setup or do I need to send the unit back for alignment?

Just try using a ruler or measuring tape. From what I have heard, the laser dots are not reliable.

After aligning with the laserdots, the alignment rod along the metal case points a little bit to the right (just slightly). If I would align the alignment rod parallel to my stancemat/target, it would make my alignment issue bigger (straight shots reported even more to the right).

Hard to tell from the post, but just something to think about. If you open the Skytrak face to the right, that should adjust ball flight to the left.

I could probably get IRL straight shots reported in the app as straight if I turn the Skytrak unit 6 degrees to the right, but is that acceptable and how do I now that I aligned the unit correctly? And what is the point of having a great alignment tool (2 laserdots) if that tool is not giving the desired result?

What you want in the end is the HA to closely resemble real life. You will develop bad habits otherwise. This might mean spending a session on a driving range with a hitting mat to figure out how your ST needs to be aligned. The laser dots work for some, but not everyone. They were removed at one time, but brought back for those that relied on the feature.

my skytrak unit which I sold a while back had to be set up open to the right to get shots to read correctly and it worked fine. the laser dots did not work for me. neither did aligning the case parallel to my target line.

I'd mentioned a while back that SkyTrak could implement a calibration mod where they could use the cameras to look for an alignment stick. SkyTrak_Seth thought this was interesting asnd I think they were looking at a method to actually use the cameras and take the case and the lasers out of the equation. Any updates on this SkyTrak_Seth , SkyTrak_James . SkyTrak-SkyGolf ????

or it could be looking for two balls that are placed apart on the intended line. Something using the cameras will give absolute alignment and a proper zero reference. This would give every Skytrak the same accuracy then and the build condition of a batch would make no effect..

Thanks for the replies. A solution for me would be a session on a driving range to find out how to aling the unit to get the most accurate results.

Alternatively, is there any way the alignment lasers could be calibrated by Skygolf? Did anyone send his Skytrak unit in to have it calibrated by Skygolf?

The lasers can be adjusted, but they can still get knocked out of alignment. I like to use them as a "rough guide" but typically rely on alignment sticks (one against the front of the unit and another one parallel out on the laser dot - then slide this one forward in your stance and you always have a target line). But you should never have change the orientation of the unit by 6 degrees - I would recommend having this unit sent back for re-calibration.

Thanks for the answer. I will send my unit back for re-calibration. Too bad I have this unit only 2 weeks and that the unit was misaligned from day one.
