TONS OF GREAT COMMENTS RIGHT HERE LOVE IT, i have had my sim set up and skytrak now since fathers day (thanks skytrak for the fathers day sale haha) and agree with all these tips. Thanks even for the comment about the tees i have been looking all over for these type of tees from golf channel and could never find them! got the name and order is placed through amazon prime. I hate hitting on the plastic tee in the hole i have (i have a driving range mat proturf mat, that thing is really thick which i like but it does leave green turf buildup on the bottom of my clubs. but other than that it isnt too bad) but thanks for the tee suggestions!! Hopefully for the OP he finds all this information helpful.Originally posted by Lgnir View PostI don't really know what your setup is, but I have mine set up in my garage, hitting onto a Net Return net. Here are the things I have learned:
1. Don't go cheap on your hitting mat. Get a high quality mat. I myself use the Martin Hall 5 Star mat and love it! Cheap mats will definitely have an effect on your readings.
2. Ensure the bottom of your SkyTrak is level with the top of your mat. If you have the metal case, the legs make adjusting it very easy. Many people say not to put the SkyTrak directly on the mat as sometimes vibrations can cause weird readings.
3. Avoid those white rubber tees that come with most mats. They tend to interfere with the SkyTrak reading the ball. Invest in some Tomahawk tees. You'll love them! (plus they glow really cool when the laser hits them!)
4. Make sure there are no lights or sun from a window shining directly into the SkyTrak Camera area. Also make sure the background behind you is dark. Avoid white pants and shoes. I have a single florescent light above my unit, and the only window in my garage sheds light to the back of my SkyTrak.
5. Unless you have very high ceilings, you may experience what a lot of people call the "indoor swing syndrome" where your swing is slower than it is outside. Normally caused from fear of hitting the ceiling.
6. Use alignment rods to ensure you are hitting down the target line. Or, if you find your alignment dots are accurate (like mine are), you can set up a laser level behind you across the dots, then you have a nice red line indicating your target line.
7. Use high quality balls! Preferably the same type you play with. Make sure the ball logo is pointing at the camera. (I have used Srixon Q-Star, Callaway Diablo Tour, MG Tour C4 [which are cheap to buy, but a high quality ball] and Titleist Pro V1)
8. Prepare for sore and stiff muscles because you'll probably be hitting more balls than you ever have!
9. Prepare for more expense. After playing with your SkyTrak (I'll give you 30 days max) for a while, you'll quickly get the bug to use a simulator. I recommend TGC, but three are other options as well, depending what you can afford.
That's all I got for now, If there is something else you are wondering about, just ask!

More great feedback - thanks! Checking behind couch for more coins... Thankfully I have two couches to check...Originally posted by WalksAus View Post
Just get one, I've had one for 2 weeks now and loving my purchase and new found freedom to be able to go out to the garage and practice whenever I get a spare 30 minutes where I wouldn't normally even have time to go to the range. This sees me hitting 50-100 balls minimum per day.

OK, you're making me excited now! Was very interested to hear another perspective on yardages... To me it's half of the reason to get such a device

Why did I wait so long âšī¸.

I personally like the Golf Channel tees and had them connected to the tomahawk tees :-). I have a CCE mat which will DEFINITELY impact your distance lost on fat shots. I'm still of the opinion that it is robbing me of distance regardless as I'm a club short inside on my irons and 3 wood. I've just learned to deal with it in the game situations. It has caused some issues switching between indoor and outdoor. I just have to learn to trust the numbers for each. (I'm not afraid of hitting anything as I've had the unit for almost two years and have no ceiling issues as my ceilings are probably a good 25-30 feet high).
The logo to the unit is a MUST for accurate readings. Been dealing with that issue and glad to finally have it resolved. On shots from 100 yards and in I put my ball just inside of the red dot and slightly forward. Driver I generally set up about a 1/2 in to in behind the laser.

I really don't think temp is an issue, but humidity "might" be. I happened to have a dehumidifier that I moved to my garage and turn on an hour or so before I go out there. I also have a couple of fans pointing at me for comfort. I live in Florida, so in the summer, it is always hot and humid. I cover my laptop (on a stand) and my SkyTrak each with a towel when I am done. I have yet to see moisture of any kind on either device.
