  • High Ball Speed Accuracy

    Hey peeps,

I have had my Skytrak for going on 9 months I think and I have been up and down as far as my feelings of its accuracy with the driver, and higher ball speeds in general. I have had it at the range while simultaniously being on a Trackman, and my observation was that 9 out of 10 times, the ball speed on the Skytrak was substantially lower than the Trackman. For me, anywhere between 4 and 8 mph different. The amount of difference seemed to depend heavily on how much the ball started out right or left of target line, pulls or push hooks would be my worst offenders.

Believe me that I am not trying to toot any horn (I am not great at golf but I enjoy hitting the crap out of golf balls, working on technique and ways to be as fast as my out of shape body can go), but for clarification on what I am seeing, I see this 4-8 mph difference on ball speeds that are anywhere in the 170s. Meaning, I have had Skytrak show 177 mph ball speed while Trackman showed 185 mph, and I have had Skytrak show 172 mph ball speed while Trackman showed 176.

Side note, I put up a thread a while back about rogue 188-205 mph ball speeds. These are frequent in so far as they happen one or two a session, but I am not a big believer. While my goal is to top out at 130 mph driver speed and make those speeds legit, I don't think I am there just yet. FYI, I have done all of the usual things to be sure Skytrak is setup as well as possible.

Any input on this would be very much appreciated.

for your purposes, you might need a different launch monitor. you should probably sell the skytrak and buy a used gc2.

Not what I was hoping to hear lol but thank you for your input. I would imagine radar would be best for raw ball speed, but only Mevo is affordable to me. I would imagine GC2 would have a tough time too potentially, unless its camerais much faster.

My guess is clevited, you're gonna have a helluva time on here/anywhere to back up the numbers or agree/disagree. 170+ is hard to come by. My fastest is 165.xx and can't argue either way. I'm pretty comfortable with my carry and seems realistic enough for sure at those ball speeds.

Makes a lot of sense though that higher ball speeds and offline HA could effect ball speed. Good thread.

Yeah, figured I might but its worth a shot. There might be a long drive guy or two that have some observations to share.

I have a sc100 that generally agrees with my gc2 ball speed. My fastest to date is 160 on the gc2. I once hit a low hook that went 163 but those don't count.

If I remember correctly from one of my past threads, SomaPLR had pretty good ball speed with the driver. Maybe he could chime in if have ever compared Skytrak with driver to Trackman or something else and has seen any differences.

I've been off the forum for awhile - just seeing this. I hung up my SkyTrak for the late fall/winter due to just stepping away from the game here a bit in Ohio to recover a bit. I had some tendinitis issues late in the season and didn't want to aggravate it too much hitting off my CCE mat. I'm actually going to be re-entering SkyTrak land this week/weekend and I'll bang some drives here soon and post some screen shots.

Hey, welcome back. Yeah I had hit too many balls this past year and took a few months off this fall to let things heal. Really easy to over do it!
