  • Best Device To Use Along Side Skytrak

So I like to know my smash factor with all of my clubs. The problem, as we all know, is that Skytrak rarely gets the swing speed right and therefore smash factor.

I have attempted to solve this by creating an excel calculator and as far as I can tell, it is quite accurate. That is great but I have to back calculate after each shot to see my smash factor. This takes too long.

For those of you that this applies to, can you post what affordable devices you use along slide Skytrak, and your percieved or tested accuracy of said device?

I have or had a swing speed radar, medicus power meter, skypro and zepp.

Swing speed radar: Seems quite accurate raw numbers wise but I really dislike the not knowing what part of the club it reads (toe, heal, or center). Seems to completely depend on swing path and release point. If very inside out it will seemingly read slow, but could read high if flip club closed. Its Inconsistent.

Medicus Power Meter: Oddly, this is the most consistent of my devices. Whether its accurate or not idk, but I know I can't make it read anything unrealistic like I can the radar.

Skypro: Sorry Skygolf, I didn't like it at all. Android app is missing important club selection custom options (club length for example), and possibly as a result, I would end up with 1.6+ smash factors with driver. Also, it required a completely neutral setup, no foward press, closed face, open face etc. Swing path looks really goofy for those with a non traditional setup.

Zepp: It sucked, all over the place in my experience. Hence why I also had a Skypro.

I am curious about voice caddie, flightscope mevo, beltronics swingmate and any other affordable options. Especially interested in anyones experience with them that have swing speeds 120 mph and up as some devices seem to behave differently at higher than typical swing speeds.

If you have had a better experience than I have with the devices I have tried, please feel free to talk about those too.

For what it's worth, our next release will include a much improved club speed algorithm, in addition to a few other parameters. We are also working on integration to several of the devices listed here in this thread. I will be sure to use this forum as a test bed for this, well before anything goes out officially.

Something backsolved like what I did with my little excel calculator I posted on here? I remember you hinting at something like that. Any trickery for handling mishits???? That would be magical if you could figure out that correlation and make it back calculateable.

I am happy with mine, some times I just don't want to go through the trouble of setting up the Skytrak in my garage and I just take the Swing Caddie out so I can work on my swing efficiency and contact efficiency. Even if its off some on club speed, I can see what looks to be very accurate ball speed and more often than not, I get very believable smash factors to evaluate. I can also see that at around 170 mph+, the Skytrak measured ball speeds start to drop off significantly compared to the radar, which was exactly what I saw when hitting on Trackman. Its just nice to be able to verify Skytrak, especially being able to verify a misread by the Skytrak like the occaisional 200+ mph ball speed I have had with my driver.

Unfortunately, I don’t have the luxury of your predicament with ball speeds being too high. That said, I’m working hard to get my swing speed and carry distance back up to what I was a handful of years ago. I’m currently right around 105 club speed and would like to increase by 5-10 mph. I’ve been working out and also working with a weighted club warming up. It has also taken some time to get over the indoor swing effect. Another think is that I have been using the tomahawk tees like on the golf channel. They seem a bit short and I think that bothers me when I hit driver...wish they were a taller and trimmable to a preffered height.

That kind of ball speed is a complete misread, don't think you need to have high ball speed to see that one, just an obstruction perhaps, or an extreme horizontal launch angle, or something in the background that it picks up.

Just to give you some encouragement, I am living proof that a guy can go from 105 ish club speed to 120+ just with practicing swinging fast (no working out in a gym, though it usually doens't hurt). All I did was get a membership to a range and any chance I had I went out and hit balls with all clubs, experimented with swing changes to find what was most efficient for me. Its not for everyone, some play very good golf right now and in their minds "hit it plenty far", so they maybe shouldn't risk it as it can really derail your conistency. I feel if you want speed, its inside you already, you just need to be wiling to go through the challenges and work that it takes to unlock it.
