  • HELP....Can’t connect in either Network or Direct

I’ve been playing a lot of golf the past few weeks, I went to do some fine tuning on the SkyTrak and I can’t get it to connect on a permanent basis to either network or direct. When it does connect it’s direct mode and I try and change it back to network and it just disconnects. I’ve always used it in network. Any help would be greatly appreciated’

Try resetting the ST with paperclip on the underside of the ST? I periodically have had to reset in the past.

I know this is a bit different than your description, but for my experience: What I found is that if I have connected into network in my last session, the ST will automatically attempt to reconnect in network. If it can’t connect into network, it also won’t allow me to connect into direct mode which necessitates the reset in order to connect into direct mode again. I added another access point in my garage (even though my signal strength was seemingly more than adequate) and that seems to have resolved my issue.

Thanks, it worked! Thanks. It seems like the delay is longer now...It would pick up one shot and then nothing. Restated the app and unit know it seems to be working fine.

I’ll give that a try tonight. I haven’t used it in a week +. The router has been unplugged off and on Iwhile i ran wires through the wall for my tv. I’ve always had good WIFI in my garage.

OK I have had similar troubles sometimes. My setup is also in a garage and it's got its own WiFi network (separate from the rest of the house). I have found that this sequence of actions always connects me OK in network mode

      (1) Turn on the WiFi network and wait three minutes for it to connect etc. (...... do some stretches before hitting any balls)
      (2) Turn on the Skytrak device and let the lights blink for a bit (....... more stretches - a few practice shots - turn on projector - select club etc.)
      (3) Fire up the Skytrak app on my iPad - it will look for a connection, check the license files, then connect in network mode. On comes the laser dot and we're ready to hit.

This always works BUT if I do these things in a different order, or have fiddled with the WiFi etc. then I can get problems and I have reconnect to direct mode, mess about, enter the details of the WiFi network again etc. I always get connected in the end but it's a pain.

      Hope this helps

Once you program your network credentials to the unit and put it in network mode, it will always try to connect to that network when you turn it on. If it sees the network, it will connect. If it doesn't see the network (ie out of range, etc), then the unit will revert to direct mode - but those network credentials are still stored on the unit for the next time you turn it on, it will try again. The paperclip reset just clears those network credentials so it has none and always starts in direct mode.

My guess is that you may have a 2.4 GHz network and also a 5 GHz network with the same name. So your unit probably connects to the 2.4 and the computer then connects to the 5, preventing the two from talking to each other.

Get many units with the reset switch fail? Despite hearing the click, holding it down for > 10 seconds starting with both SkyTrak on and off, nothing seems to happen either way for me. Definitely no flashing lights or indication it's been reset.

I have seen that before. It's a hardware fault that needs to be repaired. Support can easily set this up for you, but let me know if I can be of assistance.

Is this during the network setup where you let SkyTrak know your Wifi's credentials, or subsequent to that?

Yes. It only will connect to direct mode. Although now It will connect when it’s next to my U-Verse box.

When it won't connect away from the U-Verse box, does it flash alternating yellow and red? If so, that means weak signal strength. So once you connect next to the router, does it stay connected and work after that?

No...it flashes yellow only then it goes solid red. I was over it after it wouldn’t connect...When I first received the unit I had no problems with it connecting in my garage...then after a week vacation nothing.

If it never goes solid yellow, then my guess is that something was wrong with the password (typo, incorrect case, too many characters). Flashing yellow means that it could see the requested network but for some reason it couldn't connect.
