  • SkyTrak register shot but stops displaying on screen

    Hi,
Something strange is going on last week with my 8 months old ST...

Installed v3 upgrade this week on a new iPad and W10 PC. After approx 25 shots or 10 minutes the ST is still register shots as expected (3x green -> top led Red -> 3x green) but don't display any shot on the screen...

It looks like every day is happening the same, It is all oke for 25 shots and than no shots are displayed. On the ST the shot should be registered.
Maybe this is a bug in v3? Memory overflow? Or something is going wrong with my Game Improvement license check? (counter each day)

    What are your thoughts?

I used the SkyTrak today and got the same issue. Also the workaround doesn't helped.
oth Direct and Network mode on ST top light Red and then Green, but no shot on screen iPad.
I'm curious, have you tried deleting the app and reinstalling? I wonder if it is an issue with the upgrade...

EDIT - I saw you also have Win 10. You should also try deleting the cache before reinstalling.

Delete the SkyTrak folder in C:\Users\[Current User]\App Data\Local Low

Sometimes is all oke, sometimes not. It's random... It is unclear what causes this and how to solve it or a clear workaround to get the ST back to normal.

I haven't this issue before 2 weeks ago. Today I got the same problem again. I have send you at logs@skytrakgolf all details what happend.

A few days ago I also tried reinstalling the app on my iPad. It was not a solution. I didn't tried deleting the W10 cache yet.

I’m having this issue. Any suggestions? Fios router, with extender. Most recent skytrak software on iPhone and iPad. Regardless of device it’s not registering. Laser/lights working (seem to be) as they should. Nothing in right and left handed.

I’m thinking there is a software flaw, not working with any iOS devices, shots not registering at all. Did anyone ever solve this? Help appreciated.

I've been having the same issue. I'm also on FiOS wifi but I'm playing TGC on a PC. I did a speed test just to make sure the wireless was working as expected and it came back much slower than it should have considering my PC sits right next to my router and previously I had been getting the advertised speeds over wifi. I hardwired and reran the speed test and got the 100/100 I was expecting so it could be a wifi issue. If I get a chance to play in the next couple days I'll try to report back and see if hardwiring fixes things.

Anecdotally it felt like the issue would crop up later in sessions and on short chips and putts. At one point I hit 10+ chips in a row from different ball positions and the skytrak went green-red-green for all of them. I got frustrated and hit a full shot and that didn't register either. After rebooting the skytrak I was able to finish the round. For the sake of completeness I'll also add that I've been experiencing 3-4 disconnects per round in TGC where the skytrak goes red-yellow-green and I have to switch back to the TGC for Skytrak Interface and reconnect the box.

Thx. I’ve only run wireless with an iOS devices. Using either skytrak app or WGT. At least in WGT I know the shot is observed. It just won’t calculate. Please report back, others out there have no shots registered?? Green - laser / Red - no laser / Green - laser.

Yeah it happens all the time in the skytrak app. You can tell it picked up a shot but just doesnt display it.

If the laser dot never goes away or the top light doesn't turn red when you hit a shot, it sounds like the unit isn't recognizing that a shot has been hit (nothing to do with anything on the app side). I've never seen a unit connectivity issue causing that...it really seems hardware-related. But the fact that you switched modes and it worked is really puzzling.

Was able to play 36 holes tonight after hardwiring. I didn't experience any complete disconnects where I had to reconnect the unit to my PC so I think hardwiring solved that issue. I had a handful of shots where the top light went from green to red and back to green without any shot registering but I wouldn't call that amount gamebreaking. However, on the 18th hole of my second round the Skytrak really starting acting up, as it always seems to do later in my sessions. See the linked streamable video below - the unit looked to be in a constant state of "reading shot" mode. It was really frustrating as once in a while all three lights would turn green and I'd quickly try to hit a shot only for it to (most of the time) not register. After probably 20-30 swings I was able to finish the hole, but I ended up making a 10 and ruining my best ever chance at breaking 80.

Nothing about my setup was different when the unit started behaving like this. My two rounds took place between 8:30 and 10:45 tonight meaning the vast majority of it was after dark in consistent lighting. I tried rebooting the Skytrak and reconnecting it to my PC/TGC, but the same thing kept happening. Not sure if it makes any difference but I did show in the video towards the 40 second mark that my unit was just about perfectly level.

Update - made two changes to my setup tonight:

                  1. Raised the Skytrak up slightly, maybe 1/4" if that. Upon further inspection it was definitely a little below the surface of the mat. This may have helped with the short chips and putts issue I mentioned originally.
                  2. Covered up the glass door on my fireplace. This was directly in the line of where the Skytrak takes it's image (when I'm hitting it's behind me and a little towards the screen). I used a 36" x 36" black cardboard display board from AC Moore that I got for $2. I can't believe this didn't cross my mind as a possible issue earlier.

After these two adjustments I played 36 holes on TGC with 0 dropped connections and 0 misreads. I won't say I'm 100% in the clear yet but I'm optimistic. Alphaseekr make absolutely certain your Skytrak is at the exact same height as your hitting surface (taking it out of the case and putting it on the mat would be the easiest way) and also that there's nothing in the backdrop of the Skytrak image path that could be causing an issue, especially anything reflective. Apologies in advance if you've already tried both of these things, I haven't read through all your posts in the various threads.

I tried a black background, didn’t work. Thanks though.

This is a long shot but I know there have been a few people (see linked post below for on example) who eventually figured out that some type of electrical interference was causing issues. They fixed it by plugging their PC/laptop into a different outlet. Since you're using iPhone/iPad this would be very easy to test by just unplugging both your skytrak and iPhone from their chargers to avoid outlets altogether. In fact this may be how you have it set up already. Again the odds of this being the problem are slim to none but it seems you've tried just about everything else.

I just picked up a SkyTrak on Friday. I have a nice net and mat set up in my garage along with a new PC and a 55" monitor. Golf season is just starting here in

Don’t believe it’s the issue. This evening I brought the unit outside, deleted apps, reinstalled and rebooted skytrak, reconnected to network. Still not reading shots post calculation (based on Wgt). No feedback on skytrak app, nothing registers. Lights and laser still doing what they need to do. Out of ideas, talking to skygolf tomorrow am and hoping something gives. Will update. Thx!!

Skygolf will look at the unit, good customer service experience thus far. They did a lot of troubleshooting.

I spray painted windows wall and floor with flat black krylon, I also sprayed my pants and shoes, my tee and my mat while I was at it. Then I bought every different kind of lightbulb known to man. I then used a depth micrometer to set my ST at exactly the height of my mat within 1 tenthousandth of an inch. In my last session after all this I only had about 17 no reads out of 50 shots! I think I almost have the problem licked! I think next session im going to use a caliper to set the ball position .001" behind the laser. Ill keep yall updated

Are you measuring the height of your mat from the average mat fiber height or the longest fiber height within the 2.54 square inches surrounding the laser dot? If you chose average, you’re doing it all wrong and might as well demolish your whole sim setup and start over.

I found with my set up, it works best if the unit is raised up about 1/4". I found this worked best at the range as well.

andygg1986 I used a laboratory grade microscope to measure the the top of the tallest fiber with the 2.54 sq in area around the laser dot. Ill try setting the ST up .2500" above that fiber next time.
