  • SkyTrak Disconnecting

I've had my ST since Saturday and for the most part it's worked fine. A few no reads but not too bad. However, tonight was really frustrating. I was playing on TGC and literally after every shot the box would disconnect. Putting and driving seemed even worse as it would disconnect after the hit and not register the result, often taking two or three attempts. Finally, out of frustration I quit. I thought I should figure out if it was the ST or TGC so I went into the SkyTrak app and entered practice mode. Some thing happened there. After one hit, the box would disconnect. The second one wouldn't register. Exiting to the main menu and the box would reconnect. I have a great WiFi connection. Two questions:

    1. Should I be concerned because I have a certified pre-owned (I've played 3 sessions without this problem)?
    2. Would connecting via USB help? I'd need to get about a 15 foot USB cable to connect the ST to where my computer is.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

    Some things to try:

Move your SkyTrak close to the computer, connect via USB and see if it still happens with putts.

Try connecting in Direct mode instead.

    Try rebooting your router.

You may have a high Wifi signal strength but there might be other Wifi networks overlapping the same channel. Install a free Wifi network monitor app on your phone and check it out, manually moving your Wifi channel if required.

Ensure you haven't got any phone SkyTrak app stealing the SkyTrak from your PC.

Tytow, I purchased a certified used Skytrak a couple of weeks ago and have experienced the same issues. I've also had a lot of shots that trigger the unit but no shot is displayed on screen or recorded. Mine seems to work better in Direct mode, but that doesnt help when playing TGC.

Do you have the metal protective case? I've come to realize that even though I have full Wifi strength on all devices in the room, the SkyTrak unit seems to have trouble getting a good signal while in the protective case. I took it out and the network never dropped, plus it was able to see 6 of my neighbors wifi networks that never showed up with the case on.

I want to be able to keep the case on so my next try is a wifi signal repeater/booster. I'll let you know how it goes. Maybe somebody else on here has already gone through this and figured it out??

        Thanks for the replies.

Punch, I do have the metal case. Never thought that might be the issue. If it happens again tonight I'll remove it and see if that helps. Like you tho, I'd definitely prefer to play with the case on! Please do keep me updated on what you find. I'll do the same.

Shimonko, I don't have the phone app installed so that's not it. I will try WiFi monitor app and for the heck of it try direct mode but from what I've read I'm skeptical if that will help.

I have had my skytrak for almost one year purchased new. Not many miss reads at all has been very good for reading shots. I just finished a session to night, same thing was going with my unit. Top light would turn red like it triggered, but no shot. Exit session and where you see looking for connection, it would say looking for license. It would reconnect to dir mode that I was using and work for some shots, then same thing over again. Don’t know what was going on never did this before.

Well guys I have to say as frustrating as last night was tonight was the opposite (not including how I played - Yikes sim golf short game takes some getting used to LOL). Everything worked how you would want. Connect first time, no disconnecting, and only a few no reads (all on putts less than 3 feet). Played an entire round with no hiccups. It was awesome. I didn't change anything, so I'm thinking last night must have been an issue with my wifi channel. Oddly, I found that iPhone doesn't have any wifi analyzers that allow you to view channel traffic. I could like to get something just incase it happens again. So, if anyone had advice on that, please let me know. I'll keep you updated as I go. Tom and Punch, as you still having issues?

I added a wifi repeater and over the past two days everything has worked great so far. I'm hoping this takes care of my issues!

I bought a 15' Micro USB and connected the skytrak directly to the computer. So far no problems and the delay between shot and result is much less. Next will be a repeater if the problem comes up.

My Skytrack disconnects constantly network or USB connected. It's like 10ft from the router, no other device in my house has an issue. I wish they would address this issue, it's also constantly slow 'checking license files' one would think they could fix this sh!t at some point.

This is an old thread But thought I would share what I have found. I was getting a a lot of disconnects over USB I figured through trial and error that it was caused by static electricity. Just the club sweeping over the mat was enough to trigger a disconnect. My first fix was to ground the metal case which made it worse. So my next option was to isolate the skytrack off the matt with rubber this seemed to fix the majority of the issue but I found touching the keyboard or the floor buttons could cause the issue to return these devices are plugged into the same usb hub as the skytrack. So it seems the skytrack is very susceptible to static electricity.

Did you ever find a solution for your problem? The slow checking is no longer an issue on mine but my USB connection keeps getting dropped. Very annoying

For the first time ever, my wifi connection, kept dropping last night. Maybe they've changed something. I'll upgrade to the latest release tonight. Maybe that will help.
