SkyTrak + $100 speed radar = accurate smash factor ?

Has anyone tried placing a speed radar such as this one (http://a.co/9CwOkCe) alongside their SkyTrak or other ball-only simulator to try for improved smash factor feedback?

I have a lot of off-center hits and thought this might be another helpful training aid in lieu of impact stickers or similar.

I would say no. Swing speed radar is good for seeing if your swing speed is improving by seeing yoyr numbers on the same unit go up, but not for smash. In my opinion, the voice caddie does a MUCH better job in this regard. You can also use it to verify ball speed the Skytrak spits out.

I also made a thread a while ago where I posted a smash factor calculator I made in excel. I have found it much more accurate than Skytrak, and I have compared it to many well struck ball readings from Trackman and GC2. You could try that if you want. Go ti the last entry in the thread for the latest version.

      Clevited,

      1. I actually found your excel file a while back and meant to say thank you. It's a great tool.
      2. I figured (skytrak ball speed) / (radar swing speed) = smash--no guesstimations required. What makes you say "no" to that?

You are welcome, I am glad you like it.

SSR is just too capable of major error. It often catches toe closing, so it really depends on your swing type. One has no idea of its beam width, so its impossible to get it to for sure read club center. I can get those things to read over 135 mph with my driver and I know im not that fast. For me, voice caddie is much more consistent, believable and useful. I got mine for 150 bucks, well worth it to me. If you want less error, i would go with that or just use my calculator.

Fyi, Skytrak is supposed to be coming out with what I understood to be a revamped method for calculating swing speed, similar to how I am doing it I am guessing.

Geoffre14, as long as you can work out the SSR over read value before you start calculating things it will work fine for that purpose. So take it down to your local fitter and compare a dozen or so driver swings to their Trackman.

Agree with Clevited's findings - I have the Tempo model of the swing radar - I too get 135 mph swing speeds, especially on heel struck balls where the clubface closes quicker. Now that's an obvious outlier, but if I suddenly get 5 mph higher than normal, maybe it's just a bit heely? Who knows.
