  • Updated my Skytrak software, now iron distances are way short.

I had been ignoring updating my Skytrak for a while. (Last update in maybe June?)

I finally did the update to the very latest software (to 3.0.2), and now my irons are falling way short.

Oddly, my driver distance is still the same (230ish carry, 250ish total). But my 8 iron previously carried ~140 (150 total) on a very solid hit. Now, if I swing for the fences and hit it in the sweet spot, I'm getting 125 carry.

I haven't changed anything about my physical arrangement/surroundings, so I'm assuming updating my software hasn't suddenly afflicted me with indoor-swing-syndrome. (Especially as driver is still goes the right distance.)

Any suggestions for what might have happened, or what I should try doing to fix it? Could something have gone haywire since I skipped several intermediate software updates? (I'm not positive which version I was on, but absolute latest it would have been 2.6.5. So, at a minimum, I skipped 2.6.6, skipped 3.0.0, and skipped 3.0.1.)

An easy way to check if its you or the machine is to compare your ball speed, spin and launch angle now to what it was before. Its so easy for us to just be doing something a little different with our swings, and we drop in swing speed and or launch the ball less than ideally.

I have not noticed a change, and usually when this has occurred, it has been me. Just my 2 cents.

Did you have any altitude adjustment before you updated your software? Maybe it was reset? I haven't updated so can't say otherwise.

Altitude was "1" before and after. (I don't know the units, but I just want sea level, so I always put "1".)

Also, I'm guessing an altitude adjustment would affect driver distance much more than iron, as opposed to leaving driver unchanged?

Yes, you are correct. Hmm, I'm not sure on that one.

I cannot say that I have ever noticed a change after updating either the software or the firmware. My distances do change sometimes, but it always turns out to be me..........

Like others mentioned, we haven't changed anything regarding how the balls are read, analyzed, or anything with the flight model in a very long time. Not sure of anything with the update that could affect your iron distances. If it was across the board, I'd be more inclined to think it may be something hardware related (like lighting). Maybe give it a few more days and report back if you can't get your distances back up to where they were.

Same deal - after update short irons & wedge distances seem way off. I was hitting my PW 140-150 carry prior (which I also get on GC2 - I took a large number of lessons @ Golftec), this is also what my distances are outside when I play. Now my most striped shot today w/ a tight draw to the middle barely carried 130. Longer clubs seem less effected, 4 iron was still around 220-230 carry, driver 270-280ish carry. LW -> 9 off by 10-20 yards at least. 8, 7 - seem off by 10-15 yards... 6 is getting close - 5 - DR seem normal.

Whoops - just realized this is an old thread, I'm replying in regards to recent update w/ 'Club speed calculation improvement' or something along those lines.
