Skytrak Price Issue

Long time lurker first time poster and getting my ducks in a row for my first sim set-up(along with my new house)

I am struggling to find an answer to this - why, after currency conversion, is the Skytrak system standalone over €500 cheaper in the US than Europe?

And....if I had access to a US address, is there any reason why I should not buy from US rather than Europe? This money could go towards software etc...

I dont think the US uses a VAT system. I think they use a GST (General Sales tax ) system which means the price you see is NOT the price you pay. So in US price paid at counter for a skytrak is say:

$1999 + GST(say 20%) = $1999 + $399.80 = $2398.80

GST % probably varies from state to state, like VAT rates differ in the EU from Country to Country.

You could buy from the US using parcel motel or something, but you will pay VAT and customs duty at point of entry into uk for example.

so US skytrak at say $1999 + 20% uk VAT charged on total $1999 + delivery (say $50) =£409.80

Total paid = $1999 + $50 = $2049 covert to sterling at a rate on the day (say £.74) = £1516.26 + £409.8 = £1926.06 + a shipping handling fee (say £15)=

Total paid in uk for US skytrak £1941.06.


Saving not big if you can buy in UK for £1895.

But with $300 off in US you might save a few bucks.

You won't save much buying from the US after all the taxes and import duty have been added. Also I don't think they will honour any warranty for imported items used in the UK/Europe, so if anything goes wrong you have the hassle of getting it back to the US address to send it in for repair. At the moment you can get £200 off in the uk with code 200FBUK so it's probably an easier option.
