  • Network issues and my solution

I just wanted to share some issues i had and how i solved them.

First of all i am no noob when it comes to networks and computers and i also have a rather large hardware budget. The stuff i have in my home network are either Linksys or Cisco hardware. I pretty much have a corporate solution since i have "everything" in my house hooked up to the Internet and with zero issues. My Internet connection is a 1000mb fibre connection.

The network works like a charm and streaming multiple 4k video in 3 devices simultanously isnt an issue.

This spring i decided to build a separate house on my property where i could move my garage custom fitting workshop and also setup my skytrak.

2 months ago it was finished and i moved all the stuff to the new house.

I use a Cisco range extender between the router in the main house and the man cave. I have perfect reception on all devices on both 2,4 and 5,0 networks. The network works perfectly in the man cave and i have no issues streaming, playing games or listening to music. I have a 100mb/s (limited by the repeater) up/down and 16 ms ping to Stockholm, 800 kilometers away. Those numbers are pretty stellar for a wifi network.

I had nothing but issues getting the skytrak to stay connected to my computer. I have tried pretty much everything and even made a dedicated network for the skytrak and the link between my computer and the skytrak was still lost. The skytrak has solid yellow and the computer is online and still the connection between them is lost. I searched the forums and Internet and pretty much tried every advice i can find and i havent been able to solve it.

A week ago i went to the store and bought a 50 euro Huawei 4G mobile router with a 5GB prepaid simcard included in the bundle. I turned off all automatic updates on the computer (save data) and setup the mobile network as a home network. I started the Skytrak PC software and connected in direct mode and setup the Skytrak in network mode. I got 32mb/ up/down and 32ms ping to Stockholm. Yeah i live in sweden and our mobile infrastructure is pretty awesome.

I havent had one single issue after this and the skytrak/pc even displays shot faster in this setup. Last night i checked the data plan and during the 7 days i had the router i used <100mb which means i can use this setup for almost a year before i have to "refill" my prepaid sim with an additional 5GB.

This has started me to think about if the skytrak/pc-software net-code is messed up. As a vivid gamer and a Battlefield fan i get a feeling that the issues i experienced and disconnects is very similar to the issues Dice had in Battlefield 1942 (disconnects and lag) and also in the later versions (lag) of the franchise.

Guys, buy a cheap 4G router!
