first time using skytrak and tgc - not idiot proof?

Brand new skytrak with TGC - everything registered ok. The practice range for skytrak works great - hardly ever fails to record a shot. So I started the TGC - got the license all sorted out - it seemed ready to play - when I started the game, it looks fine - but never records a shot - so I just sit there on the first tee. Stuck.

I think I must be missing some key step. Any suggestions? lots of info on the installation - but I didn't find anything on actually using the TGC software with skytrak. Any help is appreciated.
