  • Best simulator for SkyTrak?

    hey all

Just got SkyTrak for Xmas. Looking to add in one of the simulators. Not looking to play in tournaments. But would like to play 18 holes against my son.

    Thx all
    Paul

I personally am not a fan of WGT or Creative Golf. TGC and PG are better options. E6 I don’t have experience with.

Do you need to play multiple tees with your son? until TGC2 comes out, PG (Jack Nicklaus Perfect Golf) is likely the better option. It has multiple tees (so you can play at the championship tees and your son at th forward tee). It also retains the profile for the second person.

If you and your son both play the same tee set, TGC can work out well then and is another good option. Just be aware it will not retain a second profile.

i believe both PG and TGC have online tours with kids divisions being added.

We have WGT, Creative golf, TGC, PG, and E6. I have used them with our ProTee, Trackman, SkyTrak, and our GC2. I have to say that the overall experience on the SkyTrack seems to be best with TGC. We seem to have the fewest misreads and the ball data seems to be the most true to life. The graphics look great and the ability for players to play against a previous version of themselves is a customer favorite. You can buy the one-time purchase option for TGC right now for $200 off the regular price.

That being said, the future of TGC is a little unsure. TGC2's simulator support is seemingly right around the corner adding some much needed new features. The makers of TGC have said that TGC2 is a completely different product hinting that the lifetime purchase members of TGC will not enjoy a free upgrade to TGC2. It may be worth considering JNPG. We added 4 SkyTrak sims to our lineup a few months back and didn't buy TGC for them like we had for the others because we are waiting for reliable information to come from ProTee United.

I wouldn't bother with the others though. E6 is great if you want to ensure the courses are as close to the real thing as possible. But, the Graphics are dated enough that it feels old and the experience isn't good enough anymore. It is a real turn-off for most of our customers. WGT only runs on an iPad. For some, that may be great. For us, that is super lame and comes with all sorts of limitations. We find that of all our simulators, the iPad based ones spend the most time needing attention which means they are just down more often then not. Creative Golf 3D is super fun for younger players who want all the silly game modes. We will always keep it around for kids parties. However, it feels like the rest of the game is not yet ready for prime time. It's almost like the software is still in beta. It has been a bit buggy for us. We are watching it though, future releases may be worth a serious look.

        I hope this is helpful,

I have TGC and was looking either to update it when the time comes or picking up something new.

Yes - WGT is the only option for iPad.

For TGC you need a reasonably hi-spec laptop or desktop, but maybe not quite as high as they sometimes claim. I have a reasonably new golf simulator (ST + laptop + permanent enclosure in a stables) and most of what I have read seems to persuade me to wait for TGC2 before I pull the trigger. But does anybody have any clue when TGC2 will appear? ALSO does anybody know anything about Fitness Golf? I don't see this talked about so much. I'd not do the fitness bit (not enough room in my cave) but does anybody rate the vanilla golf capability of FG?

BTW steelbone for E6 and CG3D there are free 30-day demos so you can try before you buy. Sadly this does not seem to be the case though with TGC or JNPG (if I am wrong about this then please tell me!)

My understanding is that Fitness golf is the old Red Chain Golf Sim Software. If you google that you should see some stuff circa 2010 about Red Chain software. Its old and would run on older hardware if that you only option. I would opt for the more modern TGC and PG. E6 I don't have much experience other than sticker shock on the costs of the courses. Creative GOlf 3D I have the demo for my GC2. I much prefer TGC and PG.

Thanks ms244 - hopefully you're right on the timing. A cold old Feb would be considerably brightened by the appearance of TGC2!

Now here's a really dumb general question: there's no free TGC demo for Skytrak (let alone a TGC2 demo), but if I want to know what TGC2 will offer (or just TGC come to that) I can just download the game to my PC via Steam for not many quid. Then I'll see how it plays, get a good idea of how it looks and what it can do, but just with my PC keys and mouse rather than my golf clubs, balls and ST................ RIGHT?

Put another way - is the PC game a good guide to the capability, look and feel of the ST version of TGC? (If this is a stupid question then please feel free to mock me.......)

YES, buy the steam version of TGC and PG. It should look and feel and give you the game modes of the pieces of software. It will also let you know if your laptop can handle the games and courses you want to play. TGC protee has modified and runs on their servers for sim use. PG you are literally playing the steam version with skytrak. You can even play with Sim players with your mouse and keyboard on PG. If you get the steam version of PG, send me a message you can click a round with me while I play on the sim. I would stick with TGC or PG vs the others sim software you are looking at (except maybe E6, there are people that like it I just have never used it). When I have people over they all think TGC and PG look best, even better than FSX.

Thanks Stingreye - very helpful. I'll do just that. Also, of course you're right it will test my computing power so I can see if I have whatI need. Super-helpful!
