  • A few SkyTrak questions

I tried my best to search but didnt get alot the answers i was looking for. I have had my SkyTrack for about 2 weeks and it is awesome. I feel its very accurate but do have a few questions.

    1. When playing JNPG I cant get anything within 30 yards to stay on the green. When i play on a real course i have a nice flop shot and little 2 hop check chip. No matter what I do on JNPG (hitting of a Country Club Elite) everything roles out when im that close. I know the greens are faster the alot more slope then my local course but it can be crazy bad at times. I hit what i know is a high flop shot it lands beside the hole and runs off the back of the green by 50 feet.

    2. How does hours of practice time normally carry over to the course. Just in 2 weeks i feel my ball striking has dramatically improved. Seeing the data watching my swing and correcting things have me much more consistent. My concern is that I might be learning to play the simulator and it might not carry over to on the course. Just curious of some of the experts thoughts.

    3. Is there a way to save your scorecard after the round in JNPG. I want to go back and look at it after the fact and see how and what i can improve on.

    Thanks

Not an expert in any sense of the word, but if you're like me (always been a double digit capper - now a single) then you'll play the best golf of your life next summer (assuming you're in a cold climate and you play a lot this winter - or else why the hell get a skytrak )

Every single facet of my game improved. The big ones have been dialing in wedges yardages. I'd even say putting improved - just because of taking so many putting strokes.

Have TGC, so can't help you on JNPG, some other guys/gals will chime in.

I think every training in the winter season will improve the game in the summer.

The advantage of playing a simulator vs. playing outdoors is that
      1) you are still playing on a flat surface
      2) no one realizes that the edges of the pad allow you to better target
      3) the fear of losing the ball is avoided and the swing is so harder and faster
So after the game starts out, you need to think and react to these points

However, training on the indoors is undoubtedly beneficial, and you will keep the muscular memory of the golf swing.
Somewhere I read that one week without golf means 3 weeks of training to get back to the same level.

        1) I only play soft greens. They are the most realistic to outdoors. Normal and hard are unrealistic in my opinion. Stimp 10 I like best. If hitting from the rough and sand, there is a spin penalty which makes stopping shots difficult. Trajectory tends to work better. I Would say this is the "game" aspect though. Outdoors you will be able to stop your ball out of a bunker and most rough on short pitches.

        2) I find there are lots of similarity but if you haven't played outside in a while even if you are sharp on sim, it will take a few rounds to adjust. I have seen big improvements both indoors and outdoors on sim.

        3) Sounds like you are not playing in the tour or exhibitions. If you were, you would get tons of stats and its all saved on the web portal. I would recommend joining the tour. It costs another $20 every six months but your also get combines and night range plus tour events and stat tracking.

Good luck! I find the wedge combine is the best for improving scoring outdoors but thats also a weak spot in my game.

yes- put your greens on soft and you can stick them.
Only thing that would stop you from getting better is injury from hitting too many balls (definitely can happen).
you can't save your scorecard, but you can save your round. You can go back to recorded rounds and watch yourself play - at the end the scorecard will appear. This feature of jnpg is not well thought out.

I hate to admit this but I too fell victim of practicing too much. I read it on this forum from several people warning not to over do it. I got my SkyTrak on Christmas and proceeded to hit 150-250 balls every day, on a couple of weekend days I would practice twice. I finally took these last few days off because of having 'carpal tunnel' like symptoms in my hands and wrists. This crap better go away because I was just starting to see some progress.

Country club elite mat? If so, you will be able to tolerate more swings with a divot action, true strike, or fiberbuilt. CCE decelerates the club to violently, even on good shots. I was a victim of CCE elbow and wrist pain. I play usually 4 -5 rounds on the sim per week and sometimes more, no more problems since saying good bye to cce. I did like the way cce felt on good strikes but it’s way too hard on your body.

CCE elbow? Haha! I’m a member of the club!

Gary you are handy, build a DIY divot action or Truestrike, cheaper than the ortho's bill

SOLD! I'm going to order the divot action insert. I've had my CCE for a little over a year and I have been in pain the entire time. Wrists/back/shoulders/elbows. One would finally heal and something else would hurt. Granted, I'm so addicted to hitting balls I didn't stop for very long. What the skytrak did to improve my game - the CCE mat did to screw it up! Any advice on how to cut out a section for the divot action would be appreciated. I have my current mat screwed into concrete, so hopefully a way to cut it out without unscrewing. Those CCE mats are very thick!

Use one of those razorblade utility knife things and cut it from the back to front. I learned from cutting horse stall mats.

Works great with CCE. Simply flip it over. Cut your hole, make successive cuts with blade and you will be good to go.

I used a paint scraper and heated it with a small torch and it cut it like butter.
