I got my Sky Trak last November. And I live in Canada so we are in the off season, winter, no golf outdoors till April.
have been using it on a daily basis ever since. I have read a lot on this forum and some other forums the pros and cons before I pulled the trigger. So far, I am very happy with my purchase. I can already see the improvement on my short game since I practice 20, 30, 40, 50 yard shots every day as a part of my routine. I cannot complain about the unit that I got. Sure it does misread from time to time but it's no big deal that it gets annoying. It works perfectly fine.
With this said, I have one issue since owning the unit. It's not the unit itself so I am not sure if this is even the right place to post this. Anyway, since setting up my cage down my basement, I have started having issues with my mid and long irons. For some reason I cannot launch the mid and long irons like how I do in real life. The flight is very low, like 10 degrees and below. The ball goes almost no where. My hybrid and driver are fine. Just the irons. With my sand wedge, approach, pitching, 9 iron, I have no issues.
After two months of trying to figure out what is going on, I got tired and I wanted to sell my unit and the whole set up. I thought that my swing has completely fallen apart. But part of me keeps asking myself, why only mid irons and long irons. If my swing is gone then shouldn't it be all my irons? My buddy asked me to play at a local golf sim place since I only have the range. I was hesitant knowing my swing has completely abandoned me. But I still went with him.
Well to my surprise, everything was ok. I was hitting my mid and long irons as I am hitting them in real life. I was baffled. I could not believe what was happening. So after the game I went home excited and maybe I told myself, my swing is miraculously back! Well, it was not. The same issues happened again. Same low flying shots that goes no where.
So I asked myself, what could be causing this issue? Well I thought maybe the cage because it was so big that it made the basement look small and feel small. The other thing I am thinking that may be causing this is the mat I have. I have the CCE mat and I know how unforgiving it is. But I have not heard of anyone who had issues with it with the launch or flight of their irons shots.
So a while ago I took down the left side of my cage and removed the pipe that has been bothering me to free up space. When I did that, the set up did feel different and I feel I can swing freely compare to before when it was there. I tried my 7 iron and still the same thing. Although I can feel that my swing felt more fluid now. SO that means it is not the cage that is causing this issue.
The next step I am planning on doing is to borrow the same mat that I used at the local golf sim place and try it down my basement. I am really hoping that it is my mat because if it is not, I am not sure what I will do to fix this. This is the only thing holding me back from truly enjoying the full potential of Sky Trak and the golf simulation. By the way, my buddies who tried my set up, had not experienced any issue whats so ever. And to think I have the lowest handicap among us and the better ball striker when it comes to irons.
My wife said I'd better fix this or else lol

I did not take a picture of the 7 iron, but it launched like 10 degrees and flew to a total of 130 yards. I usually hit my 7 iron 150 - 160 and 19 degrees of launch or so. Below is the picture of the 7 iron impact with the foot spray on.
Here is my basement. It is not the widest but I can swing freely so I don't think it's the indoor swing syndrome that is causing the issue.
I plan on getting the net return or maybe just set up a simple screen without the side or a cage to free up space. Hopefully when I get the new mat, this issue will all go away. It's frustrating to have spent all this money on the unit and the house and for it not to work 100%.
