So finally took my SkyTrak to the range for the first time last night.
Goals:
- Determine alignment - laser vs case w/ alignment rods
- Verify data - get a feel for shots in the garage vs shots on the range
- Map my bag
Results:
- Alignment - I found that the case w/ alignment rod was pretty close while "alignment mode" was ~20 degrees off to the left (meaning that the dots would indicate my SkyTrak unit should be rotated ~20 degrees clockwise or open to the path)
- Verify Data - seemed pretty close, however spin seemed under reported - particularly on the driver. I hit a couple of mega-slices that registered much less offline in the app than they were on the range. Spin in general was low, however whether that was due to the awful range balls, lighting, or hardware could not be determined (which leads to my next issue)
- Missed Shots - When I started the session, the sun was up, and there were certainly several missed shots, however the percentage of shots missed increased DRAMATICALLY once the sun went down. Once the sun was down and I was under the fluorescent lighting w/ some additional range lighting, I was STRUGGLING to get ANY shots to register. I literally hit 20 - 30 5i shots and was only able to get 7 to register. It seemed as though pushed / faded shots had a better chance of being read, however it was pretty spotty.
- Bag Mapping - The bag mapping feature was something I was looking forward to, however the lack of adjustability during the session was beyond frustrating. I'd set up a 13 club mapping at 8 shots per club, however once the sun went down and shots stopped registering, I realized that there was no option to change the settings. Essentially, I was stuck having to finish the mapping (which was impossible) or cut it short which APPEARS (though this could be user error) to discard all of the data.
If this is completely user error, I certainly welcome comments and fixes. If these are just well known issues, it seems that we have some significant opportunities for improvement.
