  • Skytrak No Read - Lesson Learned?

I purchased my SkyTrak and protective case last June. I already had a mat that I had been using. I adjusted the case and had very few read problems.

I used the SkyTrak quite a bit the first month, but since it was the middle of our golf season in Minnesota, I didn't use it much the rest of the year.

Once I started to use the SkyTrak again, I continued to have issues reading my shots. I thought it was the ball, so changed the Truvis red (which improved the reads). Put a black background since I have a car right behind the hitting area (thought the license plate or bumper might cause no reads). Things improved by still had more than I remembered when first using the unit.

In December I decided to purchase a Fiberbuilt FlightDeck, which I "inserted" in my mat. The FlightDeck surface is a touch higher than my mat.

Adjusted the case to what I thought was the correct level. Seemed pretty good, but a few more no reads than I had been getting.

The Fiberbuilt mat is a different surface than my older mat and I guess I didn't the SkyTrak as high as I needed.

Yesterday, I couldn't get the SkyTrak to read. I spend the better part of an hour just messing around trying to figure it out.

I think I finally found the SkyTrak needed to be about the surface of the Fiberbuilt to correctly trigger the cameras. Once I go the unit the correct height, I was able to hit balls for almost an hour with every shot being read.

Seems to me that being a little higher than the hitting surface is better. Not sure if that is true or not, but it seemed to help my issue.

I am hoping this helps others...

I too just got a FlightDeck from FiberBuilt and inserted it into the 'mat' I am hitting off of. It works really well except with my 3i and 3wood, I can hardly get any reads at all with the 3 wood. I will guess only a quarter of the shots are read with the 3i. The only thing I didn't try was to hit the 3i or 3w off of the tee. My driver and GW through 4i read just fine and I don't have any issues with 'no reads'. Thanks for posting this...

Like clark55810, after raising my ST a bit at or above top of fiberbuilt turf, I get less no-reads. So this should prob help w your 3i/3w no-reads as well.
