The most amazing thing about this article is that between 3 different balls you were only seeing 10-20 RPM difference with your driver. Heck, I see thousands of RPM of difference between driver hits with the exact same ball. That would be the difference between a good golfer (you) and a hacker (me). Great write up!

Yes, the averages did work out to be pretty darn close across the balls with the exception of the Srixon Q-Star Tour that was about 300rpm less backspin... I was a little surprised by how close they were in spin as well... but if you click the little "plus" symbols on the left side of the worksheet you can expand the rows to see the individual shots using each ball that went into calculating the averages... there were a few shots in each group that varied by as much as 1000 rpm at times... so although the averages worked out close to the same, I still have those 1000+ RPM shot variances as well

tonybrown32, great write up. I did something similar last year and it was interesting to see the similarities and differences. I’m a little bit diffferent than you in that I prefer a slightly harder feel for feedback purposes. I tried the first gen Chrome soft and hated when I’d feel like I smoked one with an approach shot, come up short, and look down to see I toe’d it. Sending you a PM regarding your Fiberbuilt mat.

Yes, I have a few higher swing speed friends that don't care for the soft feel of the Chrome Soft either... I think the newer 4 piece Chrome Soft was a smidge firmer, but you may want to see if you can get your hands on a Chrome Soft X for a try.. I thought it was noticibly firmer than the Chrome Soft, but still not as firm as a ProV1..

What I also find interesting is how different people perceive a "soft" feel. It's very much related to sound as much as actual feel for some people. I have a buddy I play with often, and we both perceive softness completely opposite, many times because I perceive a "clicky" sound as more firm even when the ball is technically softer. Q Star Tour is a good example.. it is a little more "clicky" sounding off the putter, so to me, it seems "firmer" than the Chrome Soft when putting, when I think the actual compression is less...
