  • Skytrak - Outdoor use

Hoping to gather some experiences and opinions on the Skytrak and, in particular, it’s use outdoors.

I’ve been looking to purchase a simulator/launch monitor for a few months and (as a lot of people seem to) have narrowed it to skytrak or GC2.

My initial main purpose/use of the item will be outdoors at the range. Looking for it to be a launch monitor first and foremost for game improvement purposes.

Eventually, when room allows, I’ll look to set up indoors also.

So, following on, would users recommend the skytrak outdoors (in daylight and at night time with the driving range lights)?

had an unusual and powerful storm last night which destroyed the cage. oh well. I have connected in both network and direct mode to a newer iPad . My wifi signal seems strong according to the iPad. could it still be the issue ? when it works it is so much fun.

Connect in direct mode no matter what and see if it improves. Ideally try a different device such as a laptop and connect via usb. I get loads of disconnects if I try to use my internal wifi network in the garden so I always use direct mode or I use a wap which is able to broadcast across my garden. It is still less reliable than direct mode.

Eliminate connectivity and device as a cause. If it still misses a high proportion of shots try a different location. If it still misses a high proportion of shots at a different location (e.g driving range) it sounds faulty...

I hopefully had a break thru this morning. I've been placing the skytrak on a paving stone next to the hitting mat because it was easier to get it level. The paver was 1 inch higher than the mat which I didn't give any thought to. Once again this morning I tried hitting a few shots before work with no luck at all. It was a dark and cloudy day outside so I had been hopeful. I decided to place the skytrak on the dirt which made it 1 inch lower than the mat and it registered every shot ( maybe 15- 20 ). If this works I can finally start to enjoy using it.

It's unfortunate that this doesn't come with a user manuel. There are buttons/options that don't work in every mode and some that you need to try to find out what they do...

The unit needs to be at the same height that you are hitting from. If you had it that high, it may have been missing the second image in order to process a shot.
